Chapter 634
Callie was such a good kid. How could her own family distrust her so much, even going as far as to question her abilities? Honestly, it was a mystery how people like them managed to raise someone as talented as Callie.
"If you don't want the surgery done here, then feel free to pack up your half- treated son and walk out that door!" barked the hospital director, his face red with frustration.
"Callie, having to deal with a family like yours... now that's a stroke of rotten luck if I've ever seen one."
He shot Monty and the others a withering look, clearly fed up with their nonsense.
Valerian jumped in, trying to smooth things over. "Director, my mom didn't mean any disrespect. She's just worried about Horatio, that's all.
Please, don't take it personally. We're grateful you let us use the operating room. Horatio's recovery is in your hands, and we really appreciate everything you're doing."
The director rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, well, I just hope you don't end up blaming us for everything that goes wrong! If it wasn't for Callie, I'd have kicked you all out a long time ago!" He huffed and stormed off, leaving the family awkwardly silent.noveldrama
Monty turned to Zelda, clearly annoyed. "That was the hospital director! Did you have to be so rude?"
Zelda bristled. "What, I'm not allowed to worry about my own son? What if something goes wrong in there?"
She glared toward the operating room doors. "Who knows if Calliope even knows what she's doing... and with our luck, she might try her best and still mess it up." Monty started to look uneasy as well. "C'mon, it can't be that bad, right?"
"Who's to say?" Zelda snapped, wringing her hands.
“Let's not talk like that. Horatio's going to be fine," Valerian said, trying to reassure everyone. "Let's just wait and see."
Monty tried to get comfortable on the plastic waiting room chair. "Yeah, we wait. Who knows how long it'll be..."
Lisette, sitting off to the side, piped up, "Callie's the Miracle Doctor, remember? I bet she's got it under control."
No one said much after that. They just sat there, tense and silent, waiting for Callie and Horatio to come out of surgery. The longer they waited, the more anxious everyone became.
Hours passed, and Horatio was still in surgery.
Zelda started to panic. Unable to sit
still, Zelda cornered a young nurse passing by, grabbing her arm.
"What's going on
going on in there? Wh
this taking so long? My son's been in there for hours!"
The nurse gave her a calm but tired smile. "Ma'am, this is a complex procedure. We can't say exactly how long it'll take, but please trust me. ligh
Calliope is one of the best. If anyone
can do it, she can."
"If she's so good, why is it taking forever?" Zelda demanded. "What if something's gone wrong in there?"
She jabbed a finger toward the operating room. "Go get Calliope and tell her I want to talk to her. Now!"

The nurse stared at her, incredulous. "Ma'am, Calliope is in the middle of surgery. She can't just step out for a chat. She's been on her feet for hours working nonstop. Please, just be patient. When the surgery's ever they'll wheer him out and you can see him."
"And when is that going to be?" Zelda huffed. "Are you sure she hasn't already messed up? It's been too long!"
"If anything goes wrong, you'll be the first to know," the nurse replied firmly. "But you have to trust your doctor."
What do you think?
