Chapter 1483
It was completely beyond their expectations. The trio had embarrassment written all over their faces.
Their gazes wandered around the room, unknown to others whether it was on purpose or was unintentional. After all, they had just left, so they all had a vivid impression of what the room had looked like. Whether or not the room had been rummaged, or if some of the important items had been shifted off their positions, the three of them were well aware. As the clock ticked, the leader's expression grew ugly as he turned to glance at the women on his left and right, only to see the women slightly nodding and shaking their heads.
All three of them had rich combat experience. For the trip, they had brought a policewoman with an excellent memory along to discover the most accurate clues in the shortest period.
Noticing their trivial actions, Trevor burst into anger.
Indeed, they were waiting to catch him off guard, weren't they? Were they trying to prove his crime? F*ck. What a series of plots. Had he paid too much taxes or donated too much money over the years?
Weren't they too much?
He had thought that they were forced to search his room, but seeing the group appearing for the second time, Trevor no longer thought so!
Their reappearance completely altered his view!
They regarded him as the main suspect, did they not?
Were their brains gobbled up? Didn't they know how to think?
There was no doubt that the trio was there to take the lead. As long as they sensed something amiss, they believed that the group that had left would soon return!
He had every reason to believe that they must be somewhere hiding in a corner! Fortunately, he hadn't touched those paintings!
Luckily, Victoria had brought some old paintings that had been completed in the past over. She was smart enough to have sprinkled the dyes on the previous paintings back when she had been handling the drugs. Although none of the paintings were framed, she was particular about not taking the paintings down from the painting boards even if they were completed. Instead, they were each fixed to their special painting boards. Plus, each painting board was thick enough to add desiccants or a thin piece of sponge to the inner layer. He had seen her stuffing desiccants two days ago and had asked her about it. She said that she was a profligate apprentice and was a particular person. Since she was afraid of the painting getting damp, and thus affecting the beauty, she figured out the painting board herself. As she was not a professional painter, she decided to go with how comfortable it was to her own eyes. It was why all her drawing boards were customized in that manner!
It was convenient to use with the desiccants added to it. After painting, she would leave it under the sun to dry the paint and was free to continue using it after she took the painting back. That was why although the new mixed dye was sprinkled on the painting, coupled with her professional skill, there were no traces of the wet paint.
One would normally check on unfinished paintings. Who could have thought of a new stroke in the finished product?! Thanks to her wide range of paintings, including plants, humans, and sketches.
Right then, not only was Trevor grateful for the luck that day, but he also admired Victoria for her intelligence, bravery, and carefulness!
She was betting on the rest of her life!
Feeling moved, the shock in his heart was indescribable!
The same thought crossed Wyatt's mind as his brows furrowed into a frown.
When he was about to withdraw his hand, thoughts had long flashed through his mind. Without getting onto his feet, Trevor leaned against the sofa and questioned in an icy voice.
"Officers, what's happening?"
Right then, his tone was no longer as polite as before. There was an obvious frostiness to his voice.
After coming to their senses, they failed to notice anything strange with the painting, not to mention how the painting was the last item they had checked on. When the assistant to Officer Lawson had left, he had deliberately placed a pen at a specific angle as his marking. When he saw that the position had not shifted over several times, the remaining doubts in his heart were dispelled.
With his intuition and experience, his gut feeling told him that it was the best place to hide drugs!
When it came to common sense, the four of them would have touched the dyes and brushes if they had tried to deal with the drugs after the group had left. No matter what, the drug should be hidden in the painting if it were not to be in the dyes on the palette. After a thorough investigation, the police did confirm the paint on the brushes and drawing board had dried out.
It was true that nothing was out of the ordinary!
Since they couldn't figure it out and failed to notice any traces of the shifted brush after they reentered the room, it only meant that there was nothing abnormal with that spot!
It was because the position of the brush was tricky. As long as one had to pass,
the brush should be in the way. One would either leave a mark on one's clothes or was required to remove the brush.
Clearly, neither of the possible events had happened!
With another look at the four sitting on the couch, how were they near to destroying the evidence and cleaning up the mess?
At that point, he could only force a smile to say.
"I'm sorry, one of our colleagues accidentally dropped his mobile phone. As a result of the nature of our work, we will be charged with discipline practices. To prevent confidential information from leaking out, this is the only thing we can do!"
The implication was that they couldn't inform him in advance, nor could they send someone else to do it for him!
At that point, there was basically no way out. After having create the chaos, they had no choice but to continue The man waved his hand and shook the search warrant. The duo behind him dashed into the room, pretended to walk around, and took a closer inspection at the suspicious area before they came up with a mobile phone.
"We've found it. We've found it!"
Out of the corner of his eye, Trevor watched the two acting with his corner of his lips twitching coldly. "They came looking for a mobile phone, yet three people were needed? They had to rummage throughout the room? Up till right now, I have no idea who lost the mobile phone." He pondered to himself.
They must take him as a fool, mustn't they!
In fact, as long as there weren't any detection tubes, he wouldn't be afraid no matter how many people were to search him on the spot!
After all, there were indeed drugs in the room, with the suspension directed at Victoria. The overwhelming emotions in his heart were reflected on Trevor's face before they condensed into frost in his eyes. His lips lifted with a mocking smile. Except for Wyatt in front of him, no one could tell that he was purple with rage. Wyatt's eyes turned darker as he flicked his finger.
In fact, none of them were relaxed.
After all, no one could put their guards down if the storm had yet passed! After all, it was a crucial year for the country to wipe out the darkness and crack down on crimes. They would never go against the country. It was not only a matter of principle but also their duty and responsibility as the country'snoveldrama
citizens.
Not to mention how Trevor was plotted against, one could imagine how he
couldn't vent his anger although he was burning with wrath.
The current event reminded him of the incident where he had fainted at the nightclub. He was experiencing the same mood. Such misfortunes were rare, yet he seemed to be encountering them a little too frequently recently! Finally, the two slowly retrieved the phone and returned to the door. As expected, they shook their heads at the man. Even if it was just a slight action, one could tell what their actions indicated.
The leader seemed to have long expected it. Giving a dry laugh, he could only brace himself to say, "I'm sorry. It's all our fault. Sorry for the disturbance. Please continue! Continue..."
Waving his hand to apologize, the man made a gesture at the same time as the three of them retreated out of the room almost simultaneously.
The door of the room slowly closed behind them. The four in the room had their eyes met. Right then, it was as though they could read each other's minds as none of them were in a hurry to speak.
When the footsteps faded into the distance, Trevor was about to get up, but he was stopped by Victoria, who shook her head at him.
"Uh?"
Taken aback, Trevor had a trace of doubt flashed in his eyes. What did she mean? Would they be hiding outside the door again?
After a brief moment's hesitation, Victoria turned to nod and said, "It's early. Let's play a few more rounds!"
They seemed to have a tacit understanding. With merely a glance, the other party understood. Wyatt immediately chimed in to say, "I'm free today, so I'll keep the two of you company!"
He would like to see when the fantastic show would end!
It wasn't that simple! Those police
officers were obviously experienced. Not only were they professionals, but they also had ideas and tricks their sleeves! There must be
something tricky with the mobilne
phone left behind. It might not have been hung up. Anything they said would have been heard by the other party, which was no different from
simple surveillance cameras.
If it weren't for the two women present that day, the two men would most probably
have suffered a loss. Men's thinking towards solving problems was straightforward and crude! It was sometimes different from women's train of
thought.
It was the same for what had happened just then. If the two women hadn't stopped the men in time, they would have destroyed the painting right away. Unless the two men did not say a word or create a sound, it was tough to guarantee that no one would be able to capture them red-handed.
It was enough. Were they courting death? Were they planning to break into his room for the third time?
If they were to reemerge, he would make sure to torture them!
His eyes darting to and fro, Trevor thought about it before he asked, "Should I prepare a big gift?"
Right then, Trevor was not sure whether there was a mobile phone left behind, so they kept their voices low. Followed by which, Trevor pressed a service button and called the waiter in to order some fruits, and at the same time, wrote a note and instructed her to hand it to Holger.
Going along with his words, Wyatt replied, "I don't have any objections!"
"Ah, I've had enough fun! It's boring! Let's change our positions. Come on. This
time, you two shall play!"
After tugging at Waverly, Wyatt exchanged seats with her, implying that the women should play whereas the men would accompany them. Exchanging glances, Victoria and Waverly came to a mutual agreement that they couldn't wrestle, so they searched around and discovered a chess board under
the table.
Each of them chose three colors. They set up the board and started a game around the table.
What do you think?
