Chapter 57
"Wasn't it you who had something to say to me?" Zachary turned the question back on her, catching Natasha off guard. She couldn't help but laugh softly.
Then, she lifted her eyes and looked straight at him.noveldrama
"You've done so much for me. I really should say something," she said, pausing deliberately.
Zachary's gaze flickered slightly.
It was the first time Natasha had seen him look so uncertain. The contrast was almost overwhelming.
"But I haven't figured out what to say yet. Perhaps I'll tell you when I do," Natasha said lightly. Of course, she deliberately left him hanging.
Zachary's hands tightened into fists, his frustration obvious. Realizing his mask was slipping, he quickly schooled his expression.
"It was nothing. There's no need to thank me," he said.
Zachary had completely boxed himself in, and Nigel, hiding behind a tree, was frustrated. He muttered under his breath, "I told you to flirt with her, not show off how great and heroic you are!"
But no matter how many cheesy lines Nigel fed into his earpiece, Zachary couldn't bring himself to say them, especially not when he locked eyes with Natasha's sparkling, seductive gaze.
"So, are you saying I'm free to go, Mr. Foster?" Natasha tilted her head, looking at him with a feigned expression of confusion.
Zachary hesitated, struggling for an excuse to make her stay.
"You should tell her, 'I'm doing all this to get your attention. How about having dinner with me tonight?""
The answer was practically fed to him, but Zachary just responded with a low hum.
Nigel, watching through the trees, nearly ripped his earpiece out. But before he could start mourning the failed plan, he saw Natasha casually stepping closer to Zachary.
Zachary looked completely lost, stumbling backward until he hit a tree.
Natasha stopped right in front of him.
Nigel froze in surprise and slowly shifted closer for a better view.
"Mr.
We're both adults here.
Are you into me or not?" Nat
She reached out and
his tie, giving it a light tug.
Zachary had to bend down slightly, their faces inching closer.
"Don't tell me you're just feeling
sorry for me. I've been done with et
Matthew for a long time. You don't have to go this far, even if you're his uncle."
Everything she said was true. But Zachary couldn't seem to get the words out.
"Forget it. If you've got nothing else to say, I'll leave," Natasha said lightly.
Without hesitation, she turned and walked away, leaving Zachary standing there, frozen.
Nigel jumped out and slapped Zachary's shoulder hard after Natasha disappeared from sight.
"With your approach, you'll never get a woman. You're hopeless."
Nigel was metaphorically dying of frustration. If he could, he would've taken Zachary's place himself.
Meanwhile, back in the lab, Natasha returned to find everyone staring at her.
"What are you all looking at? Are you done with your experiments already?" Natasha asked.
Clearly, she was in a great mood.
"What did you talk about with Zachary?" Xavier asked curiously, but he was also a little worried.
Natasha thought back to what had just happened and couldn't help blushing a little.
"No way! Did he actually lay a hand on you?"
Xavier caught the faint color staining her cheeks and immediately jumped to his feet, ready to storm out and
teach Zachary a lesson.
"Where do you think you're going?" Natasha called after him.
What do you think?
