Ex Cried as I Wed a Tycoon

Chapter 495

"Dr. Morgan, do you know Effie?" Grace asked.

A moment ago, Granger's look at Effie had been anything but casual.

For an instant, Grace thought she saw a reflection of herself in him.

Granger's eyes flickered. He turned to Grace and said, "Sorry, I don't know what you're talking about."

Without waiting for a response, he practically made a run for it.

Grace watched him go, a complicated look passing over her face.

Just then, Isabel appeared out of nowhere.

"You're trying to use Granger to drive a wedge between Effie and Lyman." Her tone was certain.

Dressed in black sweats, a baseball cap, and a face mask, Isabel was almost unrecognizable. If Grace hadn't been paying close attention, she might not have realized it was her.

Narrowing her eyes, Grace shot Isabel a warning glare. "What are you doing here? Want everyone to find out you're faking your limp?"

Isabel's eyes flashed. "None of your business."

Grace stared her down, as if seeing right through her. "It's pointless, you know. Those two are crazy about each other. You're not going to get between them."

Isabel's expression darkened. She gave a cold snort. "Stay out of my business, Grace. You're hardly one to talk!"

With that, Isabel spun on her heel and stormed off.

Watching Isabel's retreating figure, Grace felt a sudden clarity.

That question Isabel had asked earlier there was no doubt she'd already tried to use Granger to stir up trouble between Effie and Lyman. But it hadn't worked.

Grace's lips curled into a faint smirk. Not that it mattered. She wasn't about to make the same stupid mistake Isabel had.

Effie and Lyman made their way to Dr. Norman's office. After a quick exam, Norman sprayed some medication and tended to her ankles Almost immediately, the pain faded away.

"How's that? Feeling better?" he asked.

Effie nodded. "Yes. Thank you, Dr. Norman."

"No need to thank me," Norman replied with a smile.

He paused, then glanced over at Lyman. "She's fine now. You can take her home. And could you try not to look like you want to murder me?"

Honestly, he thought, I'm an orthopedic doctor-of course I need to examine her ankle. I even wore gloves! Yet Lyman had glared at him as if he'd crossed a line. Anyone watching might have thought he'd done something inappropriate.

Lyman grunted, scooped Effie into his arms, and strode out.

Effie's face turned bright red. She thumped Lyman lightly and muttered, "Let's go, already."

She felt mortified-could this get any more embarrassing?

But Lyman just laughed at her bashful expression.

"He was just messing with you. Norman's got a wicked sense of humor," Lyman said.

Effie honestly hadn't noticed-Norman had looked completely serious.

"You'll get used to it," Lyman told her. "He's a great doctor, always in high demand When Grandma got hurt a while back I wanted him to take a look, but he was overseas at a medical conference and couldn't make it."

Effie nodded-she could vouch for Norman's skills firsthand.

Sure, a twisted ankle wasn't a big deal and any doctor could have handled it, but Norman's technique was something else. She didn't feel, a thing, and all the pain vanished instantly.

"You've been injured—you should rest at home tomorrow. Skip the company retreat," Lyman suggested.noveldrama

Effie didn't answer right away. Thinking she still wanted to go, Lyman added, "We can postpone it. Wait until you're better."
