Chapter 385
In this poisoning case, the facts were crystal clear and the evidence rock-solid. Chris was the mastermind behind it, and Lillian was the one who carried it out. The prosecution slapped them both with charges of premeditated murder.
Meanwhile, after Joshua handed over the dirt he had on Chris's other shady dealings to the cops, they were gearing up to throw the book at Chris for his escapades in Country Z too.
The prosecution was pushing for the death penalty, no delays.
Joshua hung up the phone and turned around to see Ben, who hadn't so much as touched his food.
"Is this about the charges against Chris and Lillian?" Ben asked, his voice barely a whisper.
Joshua gave a curt nod, his face as cold as a winter's day.
"What did the police have to say?"
"Poisoning counts as premeditated murder," Joshua explained, keeping his cool. "And that's not all-Chris is facing charges for kidnapping, organized crime, illegal guns, you name it. The prosecution is recommending the death penalty, straight away. As for Lillian, with her attempted murder charge, she'll likely be looking at life when you add it all up."
Ben dropped his gaze, silent and brooding.
Joshua gave him a quick look, but held his tongue.
After a moment, Ben broke the silence, "I want to see Chris."
Joshua's heart twinged, and his eyes turned frosty.
After everything Chris did, how could Ben still want to see him? It was clear he had a soft spot for this illegitimate son.
Joshua's expression remained icy, a flicker of sarcasm in his eyes. He wanted to ask Ben if he ever cared about him, his legitimate son, even a fraction as much. Did he ever love him at all?
But Joshua bit back his words.
"You can't," he said coldly, turning on his heel to leave.
Ben watched Joshua walk away, and then called out, "Joshua, I'm begging you,
let me see Chris just once more!"
Joshua's steps faltered.
His fists clenched tight at his sides.
"It's me who let you and your mom down," Ben admitted, his eyes
glistening, his voice cracking nết

the weight of unshed tears, togging at Joshua's heart.
"I'm not long for this world; this must

I go, I need to talk to Chris.
Just give me this one chance."
Joshua stood at the door, his back to Ben, his eyes dark and stormy.
"Maybe in the next life," he said slowly, his voice as cold as ice.

After lunch, Allison was catching up with Olivia and Sabrina in the hospital room.
All of a sudden, chaos erupted outside.
Screams echoed through the halls.
"What's going on out there?" Sabrina asked, frowning.
Allison glanced toward the door, "Sounds serious. Something's definitely up."
"I'll go check it out," Sabrina said, getting to her feet. "Olivia, stay here with Allie."
Olivia nodded, "Got it."
Sabrina headed out.
Allison couldn't shake a creeping unease.
A heavy sense of dread loomed over her.
Moments later, the door flew open with a bang, and Sabrina rushed back in, out of breath.
