Chapter 118
Chapter 118 Rectify The Mistake
Regina looked up at Micah, desperate for his help, but he was looking at Darya
Regina's heart sank as she clenched her fists, realising that Micah had never cared for her, never even spared her a glance this entire night.
She felt a wave of bitterness wash over her.
Just as she was about to turn to Felicia for help, Morton intervened.
His voice carried a touch of irritation. ‘Matthías, whatever happened is in the past. Now that the marriage is over, is it really necessary to make such a fuss?'
Matthias struggled to suppress his anger, barely holding on.
He couldn't fathom how his daughter had endured these three years of living
under the same roof with such an arrogant father-in-law.
He gestured to his assistant, who swiftly summoned two bodyguards.
He pointed to Regina. 'Please escort this young lady out.'
'Yes, sir.'
Panic filled Regina's pale face as she pleaded for help, her voice trembling, 'Micah!"
Micah frowned, sparing her a glance before coldly saying, 'My chauffeur's outside. I'll ask him to drive you
home.'
Surprise flashed across Darya's eyes.
She hadn't expected Micah to dismiss Regina so easily.
Was he really willing to let Regina suffer the public humiliation of being thrown out?
What happened to the man who would drop everything and rush to Regina's side with just one phone call?
Darya shook her head.
Maybe a man's heart was just as hard to understand as a woman's.
Judy and Felicia were taken aback by the sudden turn of events.
They stood silently behind Morton, their brows furrowed in concern, but neither spoke.noveldrama
Regina, biting her lower lip, beat a hasty retreat before things got uglier.

Matthias turned to Morton. 'With the recent rumours circulating online, I believe it's only fair that your family steps forward and clarifies the situation, don't you think?"
He knew Morton was behind the post that painted Darya as a gold digger with multiple boyfriends.
Although her true identity had come to light, clearing her name to some extent, it was crucial for the Cavanaugh family to issue a statement, acknowledging their mistakes.
Morton snorted dismissively, 'Is that really necessary?'
'If
you lack even this level of sincerity, then I can only sever all ties with your family, including business dealings with Zenith.' Matthias spoke with a cold edge
to his voice. 'Unless you can match the Paragon Group's financial resources, you'll have to bear the losses once our partnership is terminated.'
Morton's eyes narrowed.
While Zenith wasn't short on funds, the Paragon Group was even wealthier.
If Paragon abruptly withdrew its investment, Zenith would struggle to fill the financial gap.
The sums were substantial, and failure to find another partner with equally deep pockets would spell disaster
for Zenith.
'I will consider it.' Morton gritted his teeth and walked away in a huff.
A mischievous smile played on Darya's lips as she quipped, 'Mr Cavanaugh, don't forget to visit the museum!"
Her words struck a nerve, causing Morton's body to stiffen.
He nearly stumbled, and Felicia, standing by his side, had to steady him.
Trembling with anger, they left without sparing a backward glance.
Matthias chuckled. 'That was clever.'
Darya curved her lips and linked her arm with her dad's.
They turned to leave, but to her surprise, Micah was still standing there.
'Mr
naugh, what are you still doing here?' Matthias asked. 'Your family has
left.'
He might have a more favourable impression of the young man if Micah hadn't hurt Darya so deeply.
In fact, he'd once believed Micah would make a good husband for his daughter. Micah Cavanaugh was a charismatic, dashing entrepreneur with an irresistible charm.
His striking good looks were matched by an equally sharp mind.
His ambition knew no bounds and, with time, he would surely bring Zenith to heights great father achieved.
It was a pity that such a man had only a head for business but no heart for love.
'Mr McAllister, could I speak to Darya alone for a minute?' Micah asked respectfully.
Matthias looked at Darya, who nodded.

'Don't take too long,' he said, casting a meaningful glance at Micah before walking away.
'So, what do you want to talk about?' Darya casually plucked a flute of champagne from a passing waiter's tray. 'And keep it short.'
Darya and Micah locked eyes, their gazes filled with a mix of tension and unresolved emotions.
This wasn't their first confrontation after the divorce, but it held a weigh of significance that Micah couldn't ignore.
In their previous encounter, he arrogantly demanded Darya return the jade ring to
his father, believing he was
still the one in control, wielding power from his lofty position.
He had always looked down upon her, blind to her true worth.
But standing before her now, Micah realised the depth of his mistake.
The submissive and adoring woman he once knew might have been a facade, a
mask she wore for his sake.
A suffocating sensation gripped Micah's throat, as if a powerful force was
strangling him, leaving him gasping
for air.
'I don't have all day,' Darya prompted, impatient.
Micah's gaze focused on Darya's face, his voice deep as he asked, 'Why did you
conceal your identity when you
married me?'
Darya paused, her eyebrows arching. 'Why do you want to know?'
They were divorced now.
Who she was no longer mattered.
'Tell me,' Micah pressed. 'Please.'
Darya took a slow sip of the champagne. 'Because my family disapproved of my
decision."
Everyone in her family, including the butler, believed she was too young to get married.
She was but twenty-three years old now.
'Usually, I'd listen to my dad,' she continued. 'But love made me blind.'
She thought she was being brave, and that defying her family's objections was a
necessary price to pay for the sweetness of love.
She thought it would all be worth it.
She was wrong.
'Fortunately, I came to my senses before it was too late to rectify the mistake.'
She set down the flute of champagne. 'Mr Cavanaugh, are we done here? I'd like
to go mingle now.'
She turned around and strode away without waiting for Micah's reply.
What do you think?
