Chapter 2259 A Man Impossible to Read!

By the time Magnus returned to the Zelinsky Residence, discussions about the night’s events were already circulating through the estate.

“Have you heard? Someone fell to their death at the Swan & Ember Hotel–it was Mr. Maxwell and Otto!” “What? How is that possible? Didn’t Emmanuel already kill Mr. Maxwell?”

“Yeah, but somehow, he came back to life. Now, even the police don’t know how to handle the situation…” noveldrama

As Magnus walked past, the murmurs ceased immediately, and within seconds, Rudy appeared before Magnus.

“The patriarch requests your presence in his study, Mr. Magnus.”

“Heh, good luck, Magnus,” Blake smirked from behind, his voice dripping with schadenfreude. “I hope I still see you alive tomorrow.”

Magnus chuckled casually and followed Rudy.

When he entered the study, he found Ezra staring at a screen, his expression unreadable.

“Sir, I’ve brought Mr. Magnus.”

“Alright. Leave us. See to it that no one disturbs my son and I.”

“Yes, Sir.”

Rudy withdrew from the room, closing the door behind him.

Magnus turned slightly grim. If he had been any less observant, he would’ve missed Ezra calling them father and son. The patriarch could’ve chosen any other words, yet he didn’t.

Did he say them with a purpose?

“Magnus, was tonight your doing?” Ezra asked without looking up.

There was no emotion in his tone: His presence was as unfathomable as the endless night.

“I don’t know what you mean, Father,” Magnus replied with a bow.

Ezra finally lifted his gaze to him. “Don’t bother playing the fool in front of me. You finally killed Maxwell. You’ve ultimately won this battle that has lasted for over two decades.”

“Have you always played the role of a judge, Father?” Magnus asked immediately.

“Well, I may have been a biased judge,” Ezra admitted, standing up. “But I will always support the victor.”

Magnus still couldn’t read him–he had no idea whether Ezra was being sincere or not.

“Magnus, you are truly exceptional, and I admire you greatly. Your strength has shattered my prejudices.” Ezra suddenly smiled, his tone warm with appreciation. “You saw through the fact that Maxwell wasn’t really dead, and you orchestrated a plan to lure him out and eliminate him. That level of foresight and ability is exactly what the Zelinsky family needs.”

“Do you no longer question my loyalty, Father?” Magnus asked.

“I already told you–1 chose to trust you a long time ago” Ezra’s voice carried unwavering confidence. “And I trust my judgment. You will always be a Zelinsky. The future of this family is yours to inherit.”

Magnus still couldn’t tell if he was being sincere, but he bowed slightly and said, “Thank you, Father”

“Now that I have placed my trust in you, you should stop doubting me as well.

Ezra turned away, his back now facing Magnus. “With Maxwell truly gone, you are my only heir. I trust that you understand what must be done.”

Magnus feigned ignorance. “I would appreciate your guidance, Father,”

“No, you and Maxwell are different. You don’t need my guidance.” Ezra’s voice was flat. “I have already pointed you toward the goal and paved the road for you. Whether you choose to walk it, it is up to you.”

His approach–his choice of words–was far more effective than any authoritative command.

If Ezra had forced Magnus to follow his path, Magnus would have been more wary, suspecting manipulation. But by doing so, it made, Ezra impossible to read, leaving Magnus uncertain and uneasy.

Because, for the first time that night, Ezra truly felt like a father.

After bowing once more, Magnus left the study.

As he stepped out of the secluded study, he immediately encountered Megan along with several Zelinsky family members who had never treated him kindly before.

It was as if they had arranged this “coincidental” meeting. None of them avoided him this time. There were no more cold, disdainful glancessome even took the initiative to greet and flatter him.

Even Megan, who had just lost her son, showed no signs of anger or hatred.

Magnus couldn’t help but snort in disdain. The Zelinsky family truly was a den of hell–where everyone had eyes only for power and status.

“Magnus, can we leave now?”

As Magnus returned to his room, he found Hattie waiting for him.

Seeing that he didn’t immediately agree, she frowned. “You’re not getting sucked into the trap of power, are you? Were Father’s words really that persuasive?”

Magnus simply smiled. “Don’t worry, my head is still clear. Whether we leave or stay doesn’t matter much. Just settle in and make yourself comfortable.”

With that, he stepped into his room.

Hattie let out a deep sigh. Killing Maxwell had brought her no sense of relief–no satisfaction of avenging their past suffering. Instead, an overwhelming worry had taken its place.

Meanwhile, it had been a month since Xarri and Quell had infiltrated the Ancient Woods.

At first, they had only intended to lay low. But when the opportunity arose, they eliminated two soldiers and assumed their identities.

After days of investigation, they had finally uncovered a shocking truth–inside the stone hall, nearly 50,000 elite troops were secretly stationed. Not only that, but they were equipped with advanced weaponry.

Now, for the first time, the stone hall’s massive doors swung open. The troops were mobilizing, preparing to march overnight and launch a surprise assault on Zovince through the mountain roads.

“What do we do, Xarri?” Quell whispered as they marched in disguise with the soldiers. “They’re clearly planning to attack Zovince before the presidential election results are announced. If they seize control of the government, they’ll take over the entire country! We need to warn Emmanuel immediately!”

Xarri nodded grimly. He understood the gravity of the situation.

The hidden Summerton family had been secretly colluding with outside forces all this time. There was a high–ranking figure within Zovince orchestrating everything from the shadows.

If these forces succeeded in taking the capital, they would seize control of Congress, alter the election results, and create an irreversible outcome. The election would become meaningless.

“The moment we exit Ancient Woods, we’ll use the cover to escape. We must reach Emmanuel “The moment we exit Ancient Woods, we’ll use the cover o before the army breaches Zovince.”

“Understood!”

The siblings had already prepared for this. Just before dawn, they made their move–suddenly leaping away from the ranks and disappearing into the wilderness.

Alas, even with their speed, they were still spotted, and a commanding officer rushed to Salem to report.

Unfortunately, Xarri had no idea that this man was none other than Quintus‘ father.

“Great Master Salem! Two spies have infiltrated our army. They just escaped!”

“What?!” Salem’s expression twisted in disbelief.

He had spent over a decade forging this army in secrecy. Every soldier had pledged loyalty to him for years -how could there be spies among them?

“Great Master Salem, these two likely infiltrated just last month. Their martial prowess is terrifying,” Finley reported urgently. “They may have spent this past month inside the stone hall, secretly studying the Summerton family’s techniques from our library!”

“D*mn it! No matter how skilled they are, they cannot be allowed to reach Zovince and ruin our plans!” Salem’s voice was filled with rage. “Finley, take 36 of our best warriors and hunt them down immediately!”

“Yes, sir!”

Finley wasted no time. With a wave of his hand, he led the elite cavalry of Summerton Palace in pursuit.
