Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 871

Selena stayed quiet for what felt like ages.

"Have you stopped loving him?" she finally asked.

Alexa kept her gaze down, matching Selena's silence. The villa was hauntingly quiet in the middle of the night.

"When a lover stops being a lover, and love gets tangled up with resentment and doubt, it just becomes torture," Alexa said, her tears falling silently. "Now when I think of him, all I feel is fear. How can we continue like this?"

Selena watched her, feeling as if she was looking into a mirror, seeing her own reflection in Alexa's eyes. Her relationship with Everett, while different, seemed to be heading down the same rocky path.

Alexa no longer believed she and Blaine could start fresh. Just like Selena...

"What do you need from me?" Selena asked softly.

"Please," Alexa's voice was almost a whisper, "help me change my identity. I'll leave and make a life for myself and my child. I just want Blaine and I to become strangers, to forget each other."

"If I'm 'dead,' he won't have any reason to hold grudges. And if he finds someone he truly loves, he can find happiness."

Selena turned to gaze out the large window into the night. After a long pause, she spoke.

"Blaine will be back in about two months. I can only buy you that time."

Even if Alexa faked her death, Blaine wouldn't be easy to fool. He'd dig deep to find her.

Alexa would have to rely on her own strength to escape and stay hidden.noveldrama

"Alexa, this is the last time I can help you. Whatever happens between you and Blaine after this, I'm stepping back."

Everyone has to face the consequences of their choices. No one can intervene forever.

Alexa nodded, closing her eyes tightly. "Thank you."

By the time Selena crawled into bed, the first light of dawn crept into the sky. Exhaustion clung to her, and she fell asleep the moment her head hit the pillow.

It was a deep, dream-filled sleep, as if she was catching up on all the fatigue of recent times. Her dreams were a jumble of memories-some joyfulmoments with Joy, others with Everett. They had once been happy, but all those dreams ended in sadness.

When she woke up, the sun was setting, painting the sky in hues of orange and pink.

She'd slept the entire day, and her pillow was damp with tears.

Selena sat on the bed for a while, gathering her thoughts before heading to the bathroom to freshen up.

As she made her way downstairs, the aroma of food filled the air. Assuming Ava had cooked

something delicious, she walked into the dining room, surprised to find Everett, apron-clad, standing beside a table laden with dishes.

All her favorite dishes.

Seeing Selena, a gentle smile touched Everett's lips. "Hungry? Come, join me for dinner."

Selena glanced around and realized the villa was empty except for the two of them. Everett must have arranged for this private dinner.

Without a word, she pulled out a chair and sat down, eating in silence.

Everett took off his apron and sat across from her, quietly watching her.

After a while, Selena put down her fork, took a sip of water, and looked at Everett with her dark eyes.

Everett furrowed his brow slightly. "Not having any more?"

"I'm full," she replied.

He didn't push it. Instead, he reached across the table and took her hand.

"Selena, there's something I need to say..."

But Selena cut him off, "Everett, I can't do this anymore. I don't want to be with

you."
