My Four Miraculous Treasures

Chapter 280

Jasper hadn't fallen too deeply into that woman's clutches yet, and there was also Yelena Anderson waiting in the wings. Frank would have a thorough background check conducted on Willow Nason in the meantime.

Three months... that would surely be enough time for Jasper to see the truth.

Yelena was the heir to Anderson Corporation, raised with the finest education and upbringing. Apparently, she'd had a boyfriend while abroad, but Yelena had assured him that it had only been an innocent courtship, lasting no more than three months, with nothing ever coming of it.

There had been some regrettable rumors going around about how she'd had a whole string of lovers-but there wasn't any truth to it! In reality, there were droves of men who were desperately smitten with her, and who refused to give up on her no matter what!

...But the thing was, ever since that fortunate day, when she'd first laid eyes upon Jasper Hughes, and found out about the destiny that had been written for them... she'd always kept a respectable distance from all other men. All those other suitors had never had even half a chance with her.

However! Their dogged persistence was indefatigable! Countless times she'd turned them down already... but it did absolutely nothing to dissuade them.

Fearful of damaging their dignity, perhaps she'd failed to make herself clear enough. Perhaps the outside observer noted that there was always one guy or another hanging around her, leading to all manner of disingenuous insinuations about an unslakeable thirst for men.

In summary, she'd only ever had one boyfriend, for all of three short months, just getting to know each other, nothing more. She'd certainly never done anything that might disgrace her promised fiance!

Frank had gotten all this from Yelena herself. Such a proper and well-behaved young lady, as befit her pedigree and grooming... she would be a fine match for Jasper.

Jasper regarded his grandfather's solemn expression, full of genuine sincerity and concern.

He understood what the elderly man was truly worried about. He still flinched when he recalled the ferocity of the quarreling between his parents.

"Alright, Grandpa. We have an agreement."

At last, Frank's tightly furrowed brow loosened a little. "Three months from now, if you find any reason at all to suspect her character or her methods, you'll cut things off with her completely, and marry Yelena Anderson instead."

Jasper frowned. “Grandpa, for Yelena to have had even a single boyfriend before, automatically invalidates the promise you made with her grandfather. Anyway, it was only a light-hearted jest of the moment, wasn't it?"

With nothing in black and white, the Anderson family had been reluctant to acknowledge any such promise of engagement.

"Jasper, my boy... Yelena wasn't

always aware that she'd been

promised to you. Ever since she

learned of the matter, she's

distanced herself from all other men, reserving herself only for you. She deserves a fair chance... and so do you." Frank shared Yelena's testimony with Jasper.

Hopefully, something could bloom between those two...

"Let's discuss this again, in three months." Jasper turned away, making no promises.

Marriage was a big deal. He wasn't going to accept some random woman he had neither interest in, nor history with, based on a frivolous, half-remembered promise.

Frank saw that Jasper had agreed to the three-month probation, during which time he'd be on the lookout for any flies buzzing about Willow Nason Anything incriminating, and Jasper would have to cut he off forever.

It was the most he could expect Jasper to concede. He couldn't ask for any more

than this, so he'd take what he could get, and try to make the best of it.

As for the matter of whether or not Jasper would be willing to marry Yelena

Anderson, after that... he'd leave that in the hands of destiny.

Frank nodded, pressing no further. "It's late. Let's go home."

Cindy had heard the whole exchange, and understood that the two men had been discussing Willow, She'd been so happy to be

introduced to her, eagerly looking

forward to a wedding, followed soon

after by great-grandchildren.

However, now that her husband had reminded her of the past, she considered once again Willow's background, her position within Hughes Corporation, and reports of her past actions...

All of a sudden, she had a horrible sense of foreboding. Come to think of it, everything about Willow Nason was a nearly identical match with Serene Jordan, from all those years ago!

There were grounds to fear that the same tragedy might come to pass again.....

She'd already lost her beloved son... if anything happened to her grandson, too... she wouldn't be able to bear it!

And so, when Frank had suggested a probationary period of three months, for Jasper to properly assess Willow's character... Cindy had kept quiet, in tacit agreement.

Marriage, childbirth... all of that was secondary, compared to Jasper's safety!
