Chapter 430
Yelena unlocked her phone and browsed through the photo gallery... but she couldn't find it. She knew she'd captured a shot of Willow and Xavier holding hands, sharing an intimate moment together...
And then, Xavier had snatched her phone away, and deleted that photo. She remembered now...noveldrama
How confidently she'd declared that she had evidence... but in truth, she had nothing! Her triumphant air instantly dissipated. Nevertheless, in spite of this setback, she wouldn't give up so easily! With all the heartfelt emotion and sincerity she could muster, she said to Jasper, "I swear I took a photo-but Xavier forced me to delete it right away! You have to believe me, Jasper! I'm trying to make you see the truth! Willow is an unfaithful woman, stringing Xavier along, while also refusing to let you off her hook! With her dirty, deceitful, disgusting ways—"
"Be quiet!" Jasper snapped, his voice cold and harsh.
Yelena's statement ended abruptly in a startled yelp, and she didn't try to resume it. When Jasper got angry, it was absolutely terrifying! Her whole body was frozen in fear.
Jasper shot her a look, cold and sharp. "Stop disturbing our meal."
Yelena was being dismissed. Her hands balled up into fists at her sides. She felt indignant. She felt insulted.
She was obviously telling the honest truth, here! Why wouldn't Jasper believe her?!
Willow Nason... she certainly had her wiles, as a woman. What sort of tricks had she employed to sink her talons so deep into Jasper Hughes?
There was that time when Yelena had tried to emulate her pure and innocent image herself-but it had only earned her less favor with Jasper, not more.
Yelena still hadn't paid her back for that.
Now, she'd stumbled upon an ideal opportunity to turn the tables on Willow, and sour her relationship with Jasper. She couldn't let it slip by that easily...
Yelena took a steadying breath to restore her courage, then said, "Master Hughes, the truth is that Willow and Xavier ganged up on me to get rid of that incriminating photo... and there were witnesses! Every one of the staff in this restaurant was here to see it happen! All you have to do is ask them if they saw Xavier Hughes here with this woman, earlier this evening... and all will become clear!"
And then Yelena gave Willow a look full of impish glee. She'd like to see Willow talk her way out of this, now!
Willow met her challenge squarely. "Very well, let's gather all the waiters here to answer a few questions for us. Then all will become clear, as you say."
She didn't appear worried in the slightest, as though there was no possible way the situation could go against her. Yelena couldn't believe her gall! She ought to be climbing the walls in panic by now!
Fuming, Yelena had gotten so cross now that she actually felt short of breath. She stormed off and rounded up all the waiters on the floor.
Soon, the waiters were lined up before that table by the window. There were five of them in all. Willow considered each one of them...
One guy she recognized as the usher in charge of greeting patrons at the door. When she arrived with Jasper, this guy had given her a peculiar look. He obviously found it curious that the same woman would show up here twice in the same evening, first with Xavier Hughes, and then with Jasper Hughes.
Recalling that moment now, Willow's pretense of calm faltered, her heart
throbbing with agitation.
Jasper's cold, sharp eyes swept over the assembled restaurant staff, leaving each
one of them a tightly wound ball of nerves.
Yelena waved and gestured at the
witnesses, full of self-assured swagger. "Talk! Did you see this woman here before, earlier this evening, sitting at this very same table with Master Xavier Hughes, two steaks on the table between the two of them?"
Just to be sure, Yelena even found a picture of Xavier from the internet, and showed it to every one of them on her phone.
"Don't be afraid to tell the truth," Willow joined in. "Jasper Hughes is an honorable man, a man of integrity. You can count on fair treatment from him."
Hearing her say all this, Yelena whipped around and glared at her suspiciously. At this point, Willow's head was basically resting upon the chopping block. How could she remain so calm? She was even encouraging the waiters to tell the truth...?!
Was she not afraid of the awful consequences that awaited a woman who'd cheated on Jasper Hughes? There was nothing a man hated more than a disloyal woman!
Particularly a man like Jasper, considering his mother's crimes. Betrayal had to be the worst sin of all, from his perspective. If he found out that Willow had been dallying around with another man...
