"This is your favorite cake from Serill. I especially got it for you. It's fresh out of the oven. Have some."

Ignoring Nadine's response, Tyler produced the cake and utensils from the thermal bag. He handed them over to her and said, "I knew you'd probably miss lunch due to how hardworking you are. That's why I went to buy it for you.

"Luckily you're here. Otherwise, my effort would've been in vain."

Nadine was slightly put off by his enthusiasm. Still, she appreciated his concern and food. She took the cake from Tyler. Taking a huge bite of it, she beamed at him.

"It tastes just like how I remember it to. Thanks, Tyler."

Nadine despised wasting food. Though she was reluctant to accept Tyler's act of kindness, she didn't want to waste food. She complied and chomped down the cake swiftly.

After all, she was also famished. Wasting food was a sin!

"Tyler, don't do this in the future. I'm on a diet right now, and I can't take any sweets. Don't buy anything for me from now on," Nadine said, coming up with a casual excuse.

Tyler pretended to concur. "Sure. I'll do whatever you say, okay?"

Even though she was nice to him, he knew she didn't have any feelings for him. She was smiling at him out of courtesy. It wasn't romantic at all.

Tyler had been eager to make Nadine see him in a new light. Yet, his strenuous efforts to please her had been in vain.

Noting his response, Nadine smiled. "I'll treat you to a meal after payday."

"Sure!" Tyler replied promptly. "You have to keep your promise."

She flashed a smile at him and continued devouring the cake in silence. Silence hung between them until Nadine finally finished her cake.

Tyler fished out his phone and brandished it at her. "Nad, have you seen the news over the past two days? Especially the entertainment news."

Looking perplexed, Nadine said, "I haven't checked my phone for a couple of days. What's wrong? Is there any big news?"

She wasn't concerned about the rumors online. Instead, she focused on work and her life. She wouldn't have paid attention if Tyler hadn't mentioned it.

Once Nadine took his phone, she saw plenty of things on it. There were insults directed at her, and also Jean's posts. The most recent photo showed Brad sitting by Jean's bed in her ward.

It seemed like a candid shot. His back was facing the camera as he tucked Jean under the sheets. His face wasn't visible, yet his actions clearly depicted how much he cared for her.

Besides, Jean also posted a picture of a diamond necklace with the caption that read, "Thank you, my dear. You're the best."

The diamond necklace looked exorbitant-only Brad could afford something like that.

Tyler had been anticipating Nadine's reaction. He figured she would break down after seeing these posts. Even if she wouldn't, she'd definitely cry or feel upset. She would need someone to talk to.

But he saw none of that on Nadine's face. She was perfectly composed.
