Chapter 945: Confrontation
Chapter 945: Chapter 945: Confrontation
"Bai Xiao, where are you going?"
He Juan and Lin Xiang had no idea why Bai Xiao suddenly picked up her lunchbox, rinsed it under the water pipe, and then walked out the door with it.
"I’m going to save someone. Ma Yao is still over there receiving students from other colleges." As she spoke, she really did run out the door.
The students watched Bai Xiao dash out, and the sound of murmured discussions rose.
"Is she crazy? There are lions outside, and she’s running out to save someone."
"Is she saving people, or feeding herself to the lions?"
"Come on, this is Bai Xiao, the famous doctor of our school. I really want to see how Dr. Bai plans to save everyone."
"You want to watch? She’s just a girl, and she’s running out there. Look at you, a big, burly guy hiding in the cafeteria and spectating."
"So what if I’m big and burly? Even a man going out can’t take on a lion. If you’re not scared, as a man, why don’t you follow Dr. Bai out there?"
"Fine, I’ll go out. What’s the big deal? Dr. Bai, a girl, can do it. I believe strength comes in numbers—if we can’t kill the lions, at least we can scare them off together."
As he spoke, a boy picked up his lunchbox and followed Lin Xiang and He Juan out.
His two close male friends had no choice but to grab their own lunchboxes and follow behind as well.
Everyone’s mind had the same thought: aren’t they just the perfect troublemaker pals?
The burly guy who had been talking earlier blushed immediately.
He hadn’t meant any harm, he was just caught up in the conversation, but he hadn’t expected others to actually follow through, and now he felt uncomfortable.
After all, he was just as much a man.
In this moment alone, he felt he’d lost face. noveldrama
Under the scrutinizing gazes of those around him, he gritted his teeth, picked up a wooden bench from the floor, shoved the door open, and ran out.
Better to fight than be looked down on like this.
Another few male students joined in sporadically.
As Bai Xiao ran out, she saw students screaming as they fled past her. She didn’t need to ask to know what terrifying scene was unfolding.
Ma Yao was holding a broom, standing bravely while confronting two lions. Behind her, a dozen students were huddling nervously, trembling as they supported a pregnant woman. The pregnant woman was clearly a teacher from their school; her face was pale, and her forehead was slick with sweat as she leaned against the students.
The situation was extremely dire.
The two lions seemed to have devised a strategy, slowly moving toward Ma Yao from two directions. Despite her strength, Ma Yao didn’t stand a chance against an attack from both sides—she had no escape.
At this moment, Ma Yao’s forehead was also dripping with sweat. She waved the broom tirelessly, knowing that if she were to fall, the students and teacher behind her would be left utterly at the mercy of the lions.
But fighting two lions alone was beyond her. She could barely handle one, let alone two.
This time, it seemed her life really was about to end.
Still, Ma Yao couldn’t afford to retreat—not even a single step. Retreating would mean exposing everyone behind her to danger.
Every life mattered.
In her urgent panic, she couldn’t come up with a good solution, except to keep swinging the broom in every direction, hoping to scare the lions away.
She failed to realize that her sweeping motions looked like a provocation to the lions.
Especially since the broom’s shape resembled a male lion.
There were two lions here—a male and a female.
This pair was roaring furiously at Ma Yao now, their low, threatening growls rumbling through the ground—it was the lions issuing a clear warning.
They were about to attack.
Bai Xiao, Lin Xiang, and He Juan were positioned behind the lions now. He Juan and Lin Xiang had long since been paralyzed by fear. Earlier, they’d felt a surge of adrenaline when they saw Bai Xiao running out to rescue Ma Yao—they were all roommates, and their bond was especially close. Of course, they had to go out together. But now, faced with the actual lions, their legs were trembling uncontrollably.
At this point, they already regretted their decision.
But even if they regretted it, who would dare turn around and run now?
They were scared the lions might target them instead.
Suddenly, the pregnant teacher leaning against the students let out a groan. Blood began to pool faintly on the ground, and the scent of blood in the air only heightened the lions’ aggression. Their gazes grew increasingly murderous, their bodies lowered into positions ready for a predatory pounce.
Bai Xiao immediately sensed something was wrong.
She raised her lunchbox and began striking it forcefully.
The lunchbox was made of aluminum, with both the lid and bottom crafted from aluminum. The noise it produced was piercingly loud.
The sound immediately attracted the lions’ attention.
However, this distraction was only temporary. Compared to the allure of blood, this noise was little more than a minor provocation.
Bai Xiao glanced at the four cars behind her, annoyed. Were the people in those cars stupid? Could none of them open a single car door?
Just as she was about to curse them, she noticed one car’s driver seat wasn’t empty—someone was trembling there.
But the car doors remained firmly shut.
What an idiot. If he would just open the door and let the students inside, they could at least momentarily escape the danger.
Yet at this critical moment, he had failed to open the door, leaving the students outside and scrambling in panic, not even realizing there was a driver inside.
He Juan and Lin Xiang were frozen with fear, watching as the male lion growled and prowled closer, its imposing figure exuding dominance as it took deliberate steps toward them.
Ma Yao spotted Bai Xiao and almost burst into tears. That damn girl—what was she doing coming into this mess? With her small frame, how could she possibly handle a lion?
However, deep down, Ma Yao was moved, knowing full well Bai Xiao wouldn’t have thrown herself into this danger if it weren’t for her.
"Ma Yao, just holding the broom won’t work. Get the people behind you to quickly take out lighters and set the broom on fire. Animals are all afraid of fire. Use a torch to keep the lions at bay and get everyone onto the third car behind us—the one with the driver inside. Have the driver open the doors and let everyone in. They’re all Medical College students; if they can calm down, they can tend to the injured pregnant woman. You can’t abandon saving the patient just because you’re afraid. This is the moment for all of you to step up and use your skills."
"We’ll stay here and distract the lions while you quickly carry the pregnant woman to the car. We’ll try to buy time for you," Bai Xiao commanded decisively.
There was no need for further explanation; she could already tell that the pregnant woman was about to give birth. Despite her fright and the fall she’d suffered, they were fortunate to be from the Medical College—with so many obstetricians among them, surely they could handle this situation.
As long as there wasn’t severe hemorrhaging.
There was time to act.
The group of students quickly snapped out of their panic, turning their attention to the third car, where they indeed saw someone sitting in the driver’s seat.
Seeing Bai Xiao and another girl bravely shielding them from the lions’ attack, a surge of courage warmed their hearts. Were they really inferior to these two girls?
Those two were willing to use their frail bodies to protect them, so surely now was the time for them to do their duty.
Besides, this wasn’t just about the pregnant woman—two or three others who had been bitten were lying nearby, not far from the cars, writhing in pain.
Their cries of agony echoed around them.
What do you think?
