Chapter 798
Scottie had just gotten out of prison and decided to take a walk instead of catching a ride. He needed some time to clear his head and mull over the details of the case again.
"The end is the beginning," he kept repeating Morris's words to himself, feeling there was more to them than met the eye.noveldrama
As he wandered down the street, he passed a hotel buzzing with a grand wedding celebration. The bride's noticeable baby bump hinted at a double dose of joy.
Across the street, another hotel stood in stark contrast, marked by a large wreath and bold letters that read "In Memory Of." The scene was a poignant reminder of life's bittersweet nature: the sorrow of death juxtaposed with the joy of a wedding, especially one celebrating new life.
Suddenly, it hit Scottie. He understood the deeper meaning of "the end is the beginning." He let out a chuckle, realizing that fate had led him to this peculiar scene of a funeral and a wedding occurring side by side. Otherwise, he might never have made the connection.
Nearby, a group of middle-aged women sat on a bench, chatting away. "This place has a wedding and a funeral almost every day. Isn't that just spooky?" one of them remarked.
A chill ran down Scottie's spine. It felt like he was meant to be here, as if someone was guiding him along. Could it be No. 13?
Picking up his pace, he hurried away from the unsettling atmosphere.
When Scottie got home, Sarah greeted him with eager curiosity. "Did you meet Morris?"
"Yeah," Scottie replied, feeling utterly wiped out. He couldn't quite grasp why; they'd only exchanged a few words, but it drained him.
"What's he like?" Sarah wanted to know if Morris was the rebellious type Paige described or the gentle soul Nathalie spoke of.
Scottie shook his head, "He's one of those kids who just draws you in. Really charming. But..."
Scottie's eyes widened, "He's wise beyond his years, almost unnaturally so."
Sarah looked puzzled, "If he's such a remarkable kid, Paige really missed a chance. If it were me, I'd have Sed him like my own, and surely, that kind of kindness would pay off."
Then, a thought struck Scottie. He grabbed Sarah's hands, "Honey, Morris said something today-The end is the beginning.' I think he's pointing me towards something about his past. Since you and Paige are tight, you must know some secrets about the Rowland family. Can you tell me what you know?"
Sarah drifted into deep thought.
After a while, her gaze focused, and she said, do remember Paige talking about her tough upbringing. AbigaiDnever liked her because of her background and was against her marrying Gavin. Abigail set him up with Kelly, someone more suitable, but poor Kelly had a short life and died a few years into their marriage. Gavin got back together with Paige. Abigail, thinking her son had a bad rep for losing a wife, reluctantly gave her blessing to the marriage."
Scottie listened closely, occasionally interjecting, "And how did Kelly die?"
"They say she jumped."
Scottie thought it over, "Kelly was from the McCoy family, talented and adored. Why would she leave her child behind and jump?"
What do you think?
