The CEO's Empathy Pregnancy Pains

Chapter 364 Having Lunch Together

The best solution was to stay away from all of this before the baby was born.

Emily's thoughts wandered as she stared at the steaming cup of coffee in front of her. She didn't even notice Leo's eyes drifting to her belly.

"Emily, it's not often you visit. I really like having you around. Why don't you stay for lunch? Don't worry, it'll just be the two of us. Luna's always on about diet!"

Leo's words snapped Emily out of her daydream.

She looked at Leo, surprised. She hadn't expected him to invite her to stay for lunch. "Mr. Ward, that's very kind of you."

"Not at all. You designed two necklaces for me and didn't even charge for the labor. I should be the one thanking you!"

With that, Leo called someone to make arrangements. He specifically instructed them not to prepare greasy food, which surprised Emily.

She had been worried about having to eat something she couldn't out of politeness. But now, it seemed her worries were unnecessary.

How could it be such a coincidence? Emily thought it must be just that-Leo didn't like greasy food, and it happened to suit her pregnancy diet.

Since that was the case, they could indeed have lunch together. Besides, Emily felt an instant connection with Leo.

"Mr. Ward, here are the two necklaces."

Emily decided to get down to business first. She took out the two beautifully packaged necklaces from her bag and handed them to Leo, explaining their unique features and differences.

"These two necklaces are a blend of ice and fire, a combination that is harmonious yet distinct. I designed them based on the personalities of your two granddaughters. One is soft like water, the other fiery like the sun. This way, they complement each other."

Leo was very pleased with the necklaces after Emily's introduction. He nodded repeatedly, praising her craftsmanship. But after the compliments, a hint of disappointment flashed across his face.

Emily noticed and thought Leo might be dissatisfied but too polite to say so. She grew anxious and couldn't help but bring it up during lunch.

Unexpectedly, her words touched on a painful memory for Leo.

Halfway through the meal, which was delicious, Leo's mood soured, and a trace of regret appeared in his eyes.

Seeing this, Emily quickly put down her fork and apologized. "Mr. Ward, I didn't mean anything by it, I just..."

Before she could finish, Leo raised his hand to stop her and shook his head helplessly. "Emily, it's not your fault."

Compared to Mason's gentle kindness, Emily had always thought Leo was imposing and sharp, capable of managing the large family, controlling Roger, and doting on his two granddaughters.

But now, Emily realized she had misjudged him. Leo only appeared strong on the outside; he was actually quite fragile.

At that moment, he looked like he was about to break. Emily knew she was an outsider and couldn't say much, so she waited for Leo to speak first.

After a long while, Leo looked up, his eyes red but his face still calm. He slowly began to tell Emily a story.

At first, Emily didn't quite understand what he was talking about. But then she realized that Leo had another daughter, Roger's sister, Alice and Luna's aunt, who had gone missing as a child. They had never met her, so Leo had never mentioned her.

Now, with a successful career and a large family, he still felt heartache whenever he thought of his lost daughter.

Recently, he had ordered another search, but there had been no results. This made Leo wonder if God was playing a cruel joke on him.

"Emily, how could a living person just disappear like that? I can't believe it, I just can't... I've searched so hard for my daughter. How could she not think to look for her father? Has she forgotten us? Forgotten the Ward family? Emily, tell me, how is that possible?"

Seeing Leo so upset, Emily felt awkward. She didn't know how to comfort him. After all, any words she could say would be empty and useless.

Late at night, Leo would still be sad thinking about Vanessa. After she left, there would still be no one who truly understood Leo, and he would continue to be alone... Thinking of this, Emily felt even more sympathy for Leo.

Just then, footsteps approached from behind. Emily turned to see Leo's assistant, who had been with him the other day. The assistant greeted Emily, "Miss Brown."

Emily nodded in acknowledgment and watched as the assistant handed some documents to Leo.

Emily noticed the assistant seemed in good spirits, indicating good news.

Sure enough, after carefully reading the documents, Leo said to the assistant, "What are you waiting for? Get in touch with the orphanage immediately! I want to see my daughter! Right away!"

Hearing this, Emily was also thrilled. "Mr. Ward, you found her? You found your daughter?"

Emily hadn't expected such a surprise to come so suddenly.

Leo immediately burst into laughter, the earlier gloom vanishing in an instant. "Yes, Emily, I have to thank you! You brought me good luck. As soon as you arrived, my daughter was found!"

"The orphanage she was at got back to us. My daughter has reconnected with them. I should be seeing her in a few days. I'll bring you the good news then!" Leo spoke like a child sharing good news with Emily.

"That's wonderful. Mr. Ward, congratulations. I'll be waiting for your good news. It must be the necklace you bought that brought you luck. I told you, you wouldn't regret buying it!"

Hearing Emily's cheerful words, Leo couldn't help but laugh, while Emily laughed along.
