Chapter 370 Return to the Ward Mansion
Roger escorted Leo back to his room, thinking the matter was finally settled.
Now, all he had to do was wait for his men to report back.
Emily, that troublesome woman, had the nerve to come to their house and stir up trouble, all because she had Michael backing her. She even encouraged Leo to go after Luna. Roger felt it was high time to teach these people a lesson!
Leo might be getting old, but he was far from stupid!
Just as Roger was about to head downstairs, lost in his thoughts, there was a
commotion outside. A servant rushed in, looking flustered.
"Mr. Ward, they... they're here."
Who were "they"?
These untrained servants in Emerald City had no sense of propriety and couldn't even speak clearly!
Roger looked puzzled.
Before he could ask impatiently, Michael walked in, dragging a bloodied man behind him. Emily followed closely, and neither of them looked pleased.
For a moment, Roger was stunned, unsure of what to do.
With a thud, the man was thrown to the ground, covered in blood.
Michael turned to Roger and asked, "Mr. Ward, do you recognize him?"
Michael's expression was grim, clearly aware of the situation.
Roger had seen Emily leave her phone behind earlier, so how did Michael get involved? Roger was momentarily at a loss.
He wanted to deny knowing the man, but as the bloodied figure crawled towards him, Roger couldn't think of a way out.
After some thought, he tried to accused Michael first.
"Michael, I'm your elder. What are you doing causing a scene at the Ward Mansion in the middle of the night? Don't you know you're disturbing our rest? You're being very disrespectful!"
Michael cut him off, his voice cold.noveldrama
"Disrespectful? Roger, you sent someone to harm my wife in the middle of the night. Is that what you call respect?"
Michael had brought Roger's man back to the Ward Mansion to settle things once and for all. Roger had tried to harm Emily multiple times, and Michael was done with it.
Emily already felt she was dragged into a lot of mess because of him, and it pained him.
"When did I ever send someone to harm your wife?" Roger protested. "And aren't you two getting a divorce?"
Emily sighed deeply. It seemed their divorce news had spread far and wide.
"Whether we divorce or not is none of your business," Michael snapped.
Michael, looking furious, clenched his fists. Emily quickly stepped forward to calm him down.
Sometimes, Emily felt like she and Michael were like water and fire. Especially recently, this feeling had grown stronger. Whenever Michael got heated, she would "douse" him, and things would settle down.
But this dynamic stemmed from Michael's guilt towards her.
Emily knew that one day, this feeling would also fade. Eventually, she and Michael would part ways.
She signaled Michael to calm down, and he did, though his voice remained rough, causing quite a stir in the living room.
The noise soon drew Leo out.
Seeing an opportunity, Emily quickly reported Roger's actions to Leo. She couldn't always rely on Michael to defend her; some things needed to be addressed directly.
Leo, already frustrated with Luna's antics, was furious to find Roger causing trouble as well. He ordered someone to bring a rope.
This time, Emily didn't intervene. She couldn't bear to think what might have happened if Michael hadn't arrived in time.
In the end, amidst Roger's angry shouts, Emily grabbed her phone and left with Michael.
She pushed Michael into the passenger seat, ready to drive him back to Emerald Lake Manor. Given his current state, returning to the Smith Mansion would only lead to more conflict between the Smith and Ward families.

Emily was tired of the constant family feuds and power struggles. She longed for a peaceful life. With these thoughts, she pressed the gas pedal and sped away.
The drive was mostly silent. Occasionally, Emily would ask Michael to adjust the air conditioning or charge her phone. Michael complied without much reaction, like a wooden puppet.
Emily couldn't tell what Michael was thinking. She had wanted to ask why he followed her, but she already knew the answer: guilt, not love.
With that realization, she lost the patience to ask.
Eventually, Michael broke the silence. He knew Emily well enough to understand that if he didn't ask, she would never tell him why she was at the Ward Mansion.
"I was just there for work," Emily explained, recounting the incident with Luna's broken necklace.
"Just two necklaces. Why did Leo insist you fix them right away?" Michael wondered.
At first, Emily had the same question. But seeing Leo's urgency when he heard Penelope was abroad and the necklace might take time to repair, she understood.
"Mr. Ward's missing daughter must have had a big impact on him. It's understandable," she said. "I just didn't expect to run into Roger."
Michael chuckled lightly, regaining some composure and teasing her. "There are a lot of things you don't expect."
'Like how you never expected me to fall hopelessly in love with you,' he thought.
Feeling a sudden heaviness in his chest, Michael reached for his cigarettes and asked Emily, "Do you mind?"
Emily shook her head. In their three years together, she'd rarely seen him smoke. If he was asking now, it meant he needed it. She didn't mind.
What do you think?
