Chapter 471
After she finished speaking, she closed her eyes, worn out. She had rushed over as soon as she woke up, and her body was already at its breaking point. Evelyn, worried sick about Josephine, didn't stick around and instead followed her to the hospital. Charles, on the other hand, didn't go with them. He had more pressing matters to deal with.
As the car drove away, Charles turned back toward Dahlia.noveldrama
"Charles..." she uttered, her voice tinged with desperation. Seeing him come back, with just the two of them left, a flicker of hope sparked in her eyes. The moment Charles crouched down, she burst into tears and lunged toward him. But before she could reach him, he grabbed her by the throat.
His grip was like an iron vise, and Dahlia's eyes widened in terror. As Charles tightened his hold, her breath came in ragged gasps, and she instinctively clawed at his hand, her voice a strangled whisper, "West... Side... Let... Go... I... Can't... Breathe...!"
She looked at Charles, her eyes pleading, trying to show her vulnerability. But Charles was unmoved; instead of easing his grip, he tightened it further, demanding, “Dahlia, tell me, did you deliberately cause Charlie and Grandma's deaths?"
Without Debbie's influence, Charles found himself questioning the things Eve had once told him-how Dahlia might have deliberately caused Charlie's death. Was Grandma's death somehow linked to her too? A habitual liar, Dahlia's words were suspect at best.
In moments close to death, human willpower often falters. Charles was waiting for Dahlia to mentally collapse.
"It... Wasn't... Me... I... Didn't...”

Dahlia's face had turned a worrying shade of blue, and her attempts to pry Charles's hands away grew feeble. Yet, she insisted on her innocence. Deep down, Dahlia knew that admitting to anything would be her end. By denying it, even if Charles started to suspect her, he had no proof. Without evidence, he couldn't do anything to her. As long as she was alive, she still had a chance. No matter the pain, she couldn't give in.
Hearing her denial, Charles tightened his grip even further, his eyes
flashing with a chilling intent. The coldness radiating from him was terrifying. Dahlia's brain started to fog from lack of oxygen, yet her strong will kept her holding on, her blurred gaze fixed on Charles, not uttering the words he wanted to hear.
Before he could actually choke her to death, Charles let go. Dahlia collapsed onto the ground, gulping in air, coughing violently. The moment she could breathe freely again, Dahlia knew she had won this round.
Charles stood up slowly, towering over Dahlia, his voice like ice, "Dahlia, you better be telling the truth. If I find out it's you, I'll make sure you pay dearly for it."
Not many could withstand Charles's intimidating presence. Yet Dahlia managed to suppress the fear within her, meeting Charles's gaze without flinching. Her eyes were steady, silently proclaiming her innocence.
Charles didn't push further. From Dahlia's reaction, it was clear that if she was guilty, getting her to confess was unlikely. He'd have to dig for evidence.
Without another glance at Dahlia, Charles picked up the shattered recorder he had destroyed.
"Charles..." Dahlia's voice was faint
as she tried to call him back. But he left without a backward glance. Before leaving, he phoned the police. He believed Ms. Josephine's claim that Dahlia had pushed her. O Although he had no evidence, he could ensure that she was detained for forty-eight hours. After the police took Dahlia away, Charles headed to the hospital.
