Chapter 16
Lucas had changed his room, but for him to leave with Tiffany so early in the morning only meant one thing-they had shared the same room.
Suddenly, Evelyn felt nauseous.
She quickly avoided the couple and returned to her own room. Attempting to vomit, she ran into the bathroom but nothing came out in the end.
Her appetite had worsened comparably, and perhaps her condition was worse than she had imagined. Looking at her haggard self in the mirror, a chill spread through her heart.

However, she was glad that she had managed to come to her senses before it was too late. She still had time to start over.
Evelyn decided to freshen up and touch up her makeup, making herself look much more presentable and healthier.
She had just asked the lodge to arrange a car to take her down the mountains when she received a call from her grandmother, Deborah Johnson.
Deborah was a strict, somber woman. Her husband, Evelyn's grandfather, had died at an early age, so Deborah devoted all of her energy to raising her children.
Ever since Naomi died, Deborah became even more withdrawn and quiet, but she was always worried about Evelyn.
"Grandma?" Evelyn cleared her throat before answering the call, ensuring that Deborah would not suspect anything from her tone.
"Have you had your breakfast?" Deborah asked in concern.
Warmth filled Evelyn's heart as she replied, "I'm eating right now. Do you miss me, Grandma?"
Deborah chuckled. "I don't have anything important to do, so I knitted a scarf for you and Lucas. The weather is getting cold, so it'll be able to keep you warm.
"You two should drop by and pick them up when you have time. You guys can also stay for a meal, and I'll make your favorite honey-braised spare ribs when you do."
Evelyn lowered her gaze and commented, "Grandma, you didn't have to go through all that trouble."
"That's nothing. I know it isn't easy for you to marry into such a wealthy family, and there's not much I can do to help either. I can only offer you my support and treat Lucas well. If he has a conscience, I'm sure he'll treat you well. Am I right?"
Tears welled in Evelyn's eyes as she wiped them away. "He's been quite busy recently. Why don't..."
"I'm sure he has the time for a meal. Can you two find some time in the next couple of days?" Deborah asked. It had been a long time since she last saw Evelyn and Lucas, and she missed them dearly.
Evelyn gave it some thought before she agreed. "Alright, I'll try my best."
She figured it was time for her and Lucas to have a proper conversation with their grandmothers about their divorce. They should at least part on good terms.
In Deborah's eyes, something as serious as divorce would require a proper
reason.
She did not want Deborah to find out about Lucas' affair either as that would only anger her and endanger her health. It was better to find a more acceptable reason or something along the lines of being incompatible.
However, that meant that Lucas would have to see her grandmother.
After hesitating for some time, Evelyn went out and headed to Lucas' room. When she arrived, she realized that the door was open.
She was about to knock when she saw Tiffany on her tiptoes, arms wrapped around Lucas' neck. Lucas, on the other hand, held her waist loosely as he tilted her head. It looked like they were kissing.
Evelyn's eyes flickered as she froze on the spot.
Suddenly, a pair of hands shoved her. Her head spun and she stumbled back.
"How can you be so shameless? How can you even spy on someone's privacy like this?" Sophia had appeared out of nowhere, glaring at Evelyn as if Evelyn had committed a grave sin.
Her shouts had also alerted the people inside the room, and they quickly stepped out.
For once, Tiffany was frowning as she pursed her lips at Evelyn.
"Did you enjoy the show?" Lucas had a faint smile, but the frigid look in his eyes was suffocating. It was obvious that he was infuriated.
Evelyn had not even said a word, yet she could feel the accusations rolling off from him.
What do you think?
