Chapter 21
Michael quickly came to his senses and replied, "Mr. Grant, Ms. Reed has not come up yet."
In other words, she had not sent him his lunch at all.
Lost in thought, Lucas narrowed his eyes.
Michael couldn't help but continue, "I've talked to the PR department, and they told me that she hadn't reported to work today. They claimed that she's already resigned.
"Mr. Grant, is she throwing a tantrum or something?"
Back then, Evelyn would always deliver lunch to Lucas every day without fail, eager to make her presence known. Lucas rarely ate the food she made and would ask Michael to deal with it now and then.
Resigned?
Lucas had never taken Evelyn's resignation seriously. He knew that Evelyn was in need of a high-paying job, but now...
It was only a matter of time until her senses caught up to her and she'd return.
He chuckled nonchalantly and turned on his phone. Scrolling through his chats, he managed to find Evelyn's number. The last message she had sent him was about a week ago where she asked him if he'd be back for dinner.
Ever since he had not accompanied her to her doctor's appointment and celebrated Tiffany's birthday, she had stopped contacting him altogether.
"In my opinion, this is probably just one of Ms. Reed's tricks. She probably won't be able to stay stubborn for long, and it's only a matter of time until she comes crawling back, pretending that nothing had happened," Michael commented in disdain.
Women always liked to play those petty tricks on men.
She was probably just trying to gain Lucas' attention, but would Lucas even care?
Lucas stared at Evelyn's profile picture for a moment before keeping his phone away. He had no intention of messaging her to ask whether something was wrong.
Instead, he stood up and said, "Book a table at a restaurant. I'll have lunch with Tiffany."
Before he left, he asked, "Are Mason and Jason supposed to meet up with Mr. Davis from Woodlands Technology today?"
Michael replied, "They are. Do you have any other instructions?"
Lucas walked out as he instructed, "Ask them to bring Tiffany along and introduce her to them."
Michael put on a knowing expression. Tiffany was probably the only one Lucas was so attentive to.
...
In the afternoon, Sebastian had a sudden business lunch meeting he had to attend, and he wanted to bring Evelyn with him.
However, Evelyn's condition had been worsening, and she could not drink any alcohol due to her cancer. So, she made up an excuse to decline his offer.
He had not forced her either and only asked her to pick him up once he was done. Hence, she decided to go shopping nearby.
In the past, she had been so focused on taking care of Lucas that she never lived her life properly. Even something casual like shopping had been a rare activity for her back then.
Lucas had extremely high standards for food, clothing, and daily necessities. She had spent so much effort meeting his expectations that she had never had time for herself.
Now that her recovery from cancer remained uncertain, she figured she should enjoy life while she could.
After walking around for a while, she felt a chill and wrapped the scarf Deborah had knitted around her neck.
When she returned to the restaurant, she asked Sebastian where he was and went straight to the private room.
Once she arrived at the door, she heard someone inside say, "Mr. Grant truly does value Ms. Moore to have purposely brought her here. It's also our honor to meet someone as talented as you, Ms. Moore."
Evelyn looked inside and saw a tall man standing beside Tiffany.
When he turned to look at Tiffany, his eyes were filled with admiration as he continued, "The two of you are always together. It seems like it's only a matter of time until Ms. Moore becomes your wife. Am I right, Mr. Grant?"
"Mr. Grant, you're so fortunate to have someone like Ms. Moore who cares about all of your needs. I'm sure everything in your life is in perfect order."noveldrama
Lucas answered slowly, "Tiffany's hands aren't fit to do something so mundane as house chores. She has a world of her own to conquer."
Evelyn's hands immediately turned cold as she held onto the door handle.
In his eyes, she was only worthy of being a housewife, but Tiffany was too precious to do such things.
Sebastian was also inside the private room, but he remained silent.
Evelyn immediately understood the situation.
Since he had refused to meet Tiffany earlier today, Lucas came up with an idea to connect them. He was willing to pave the way for her and ensured that no one would disrespect her.
Evelyn took a deep breath. She knew that she was about to sever all ties with Lucas, but she could not help but feel sorry for her past self!
She wrapped her scarf around her and headed downstairs, covering her pale face.
After a short while, Sebastian came down too.
It was clear that he was frustrated, and when he saw the other scarf inside her car, he said, "It's so cold out here. Why don't you give me that scarf to use?"
Evelyn proceeded to hand him the scarf without hesitation. After all, Lucas would not appreciate it, and she did not want him to waste her grandmother's efforts.
As Sebastian wrapped the scarf around his neck, he complained, "Lucas is so annoying, and he apparently has connections everywhere. I never expected him to bring Tiffany to lunch today.
"He had even introduced Tiffany to me. Who does he think she is? And who does he take me for?"
On the other side, Lucas and his friends had arrived at the parking lot.
Mason was the first one to spot Evelyn and Sebastian together. His sharp eyes also noticed that they were wearing matching scarves.
After a moment of shock, he exclaimed, "Is Evelyn cheating on you?"
What do you think?
