The Queen Returns—And She's Unforgiving

Chapter 29

"You don't even have a good family background, nor a great academic record. In the future, do you plan on making Lucas tell the world that his wife is a full-time housewife?" Sharron was already filled with dislike, but scorn subconsciously bled through her voice.

She would never approve of this daughter-in-law, no matter what!

It was an unwise move to let her marry Lucas to begin with. She felt that Evelyn didn't deserve him.

Tiffany, whom Lucas had been close to lately, was much more suited to him.

Although her family background fell short of the Grant family by a large margin, Evelyn could not hold a candle to that lady's academic accolades!

Evelyn could tell what Sharron was thinking. She said calmly, "You won't need to worry about that very soon."

Sharron frowned. "What do you mean?"

Before Evelyn could reply, a buzzer rang out from the entrance.

A tall figure appeared in the main hall. Lucas swept his gaze across the room to observe the situation. It wasn't as if he'd never seen his mother try to make things difficult for Evelyn. Besides, Evelyn had a good temper and would always become docile and submissive before her.

She never seemed aggrieved, so why would he step in?

"I had something to resolve, so I was late." His gaze swept past Evelyn, and he moved to stand next to her. "Grandma, why do you look unhappy?"

When he stood next to her, Evelyn could clearly smell the faint scent of female perfume coming from him. She couldn't ignore the low notes of white musk.

It was Tiffany's scent.

How could such a strong fragrance get on him if they hadn't spent a long time being intimate with each other?

Maria slapped Lucas' sturdy arm. "You're finally back! What was so urgent that you were late?"

Lucas smiled but didn't answer. "I'm hungry. Why don't we start dinner?"

His return had interrupted Sharron from saying anything further. She glanced at Evelyn with a scowl, then got up to leave. "I have no appetite. You can eat without me."

Maria knew that Sharron had always been opposed to Evelyn's marriage to Lucas. She didn't bother persuading her, then brought Evelyn and Lucas to the dining room.

Sophia, who had just arrived home, ran happily over to Lucas. She ignored Evelyn and sat on the seat next to Lucas.

Whether intentionally or not, she didn't want Evelyn to get close to Lucas.

Maria also realized this. "Child, your sister-in-law is here. Sit next to Grandma instead."

"I have something to say to Lucas." Sophia blinked and looked at Evelyn. "You're not that controlling, are you?"

Evelyn calmly took a random seat. "Do what you want."

When she said that, Lucas raised his head to look at her, but Evelyn pointedly ignored him.

She was aware that she used to love sticking to him in the past. She wouldn't let go of any opportunity to get closer, so she would always sit next to him. However, there was no longer any need since they were about to divorce soon.

"Lawrence, serve what I prepared for Lucas," Maria instructed.noveldrama

Lawrence quickly brought a serving tray exclusively for Lucas.

Lucas lifted the lid to take a look, and his elegant features quickly transformed. He flashed a forced smile. "Grandma, I don't need this. I'm very healthy."

Evelyn glanced at it, then paused.

Those were oysters.

They were especially good for invigorating the kidneys and increasing libido.

Maria smiled and placed a few oysters on his plate. "You shouldn't complain about nourishing foods. I painstakingly prepared it for you so that you can have a harmonious marriage."

Sophia was still young and didn't understand the implications behind Maria's words. She merely glanced at the dish before lowering her head to reach out for the other dishes.

Evelyn also turned a blind eye to it.

Maria still hoped for a few grandchildren from them. Putting aside her health, the number of times Evelyn had done it with Lucas could be counted on the fingers of one hand. It could be said that he lacked the desire to have sex with her. This was especially true now that their divorce was imminent.

Sure enough, Lucas received the oysters but showed no signs of actually eating them.

Maria knew that there was no use persuading him and sighed helplessly.

Why wouldn't this guy appreciate Evelyn?

Evelyn kept thinking about the topic of divorce throughout dinner. She was waiting for Lucas to raise the subject, and as he continued keeping silent, she couldn't help but glance at him several times.

Lucas noticed her stares.

He raised his head and looked over, catching Evelyn's gaze.

His eyes were clear and indifferent. When he frowned, he looked especially... displeased.

Evelyn had looked at him five times in 20 minutes ever since Maria served him those oysters.

He was a little uncomfortable with how blatant she was acting.
