Chapter 37
Lucas' gaze was too indifferent. He could clearly see the exhaustion and sickness on Evelyn's face, yet there wasn't a hint of concern in his eyes.
They had been married for three years and had spent every day together. Even a cat or a dog would develop attachment over time.
But for Lucas, the only thing that ever mattered to him was Tiffany.
After all, Lucas had never cared about Evelyn's life or death.
Evelyn subconsciously glanced at Tiffany's abdomen before subtly pulling her hand away as Blake reached out to ruffle her hair.
Noticing Lucas and his group, Blake greeted him with a polite nod. "Mr. Grant, are you feeling unwell?"
Lucas responded with a slight nod. "Just bringing Tiffany here for a checkup."
Blake suddenly recalled some gossip he had just heard in the hospital and smiled coyly. "Good news? I heard it's a prenatal checkup?"
Tiffany raised her eyebrows quizzically, exchanged a look with Lucas, and smiled.
Lucas' gaze lifted slightly. "Now, now, Mr. Harrison, be careful with your words. Rumors like that wouldn't be good for Tiffany."
Evelyn quietly observed the back of her hand, which was swollen from the IV drip.
Lucas had received an elite education since childhood. He was always poised, always composed. Even if he was cold by nature, he maintained a polished front, regardless of his true feelings.
Except, of course, when it came to Tiffany.
With her, he was meticulous and allowed no room for mistakes.
"Oh, so it was a misunderstanding," Blake mused.
"Yeah," Lucas said evenly. "Tiffany's hand got scalded, so I brought her to the doctor to get it treated."
Only then did Evelyn notice the back of Tiffany's hand. It was fair and slender, barely showing any scars.
It wasn't even a real injury, yet Lucas took it so seriously and brought her to the hospital with such fanfare.
Meanwhile, Evelyn had collapsed right in front of him, and he didn't even bat an eyelid.
How did that saying go again? If someone didn't love you, they'd see you hanging from a noose and brush it off, as if you were merely playing on a swing.
Tiffany nodded gracefully at Blake. "I'll go ahead and see the doctor. You two continue chatting."
She never once acknowledged Evelyn. Though her expression remained gentle the entire time, there was a subtle hint of disdain beneath it.
Not wanting to engage in awkward small talk with Lucas and Blake, Evelyn stood up. "I'll get going and leave you two to it."
As she walked away, Lucas finally looked at her.
She seemed thinner now.
Sebastian's coat draped over her shoulders, making her look even more fragile.
She also wasn't the same as before. In the past, she would often speak gently to him, always finding topics to chat about when they met.
But lately, she had been distant.
He found himself glancing at her again.noveldrama
Blake tilted his head and looked at him. "Mr. Grant, you've been devoting all your attention to Ms. Moore lately. Meanwhile, I have to worry about Evelyn. She's currently running a fever. Just how much have you been overworking her?"
Lucas replied coldly, "Evelyn is no longer an employee at Bluezen. Has she never told you that?"
Blake was genuinely surprised. He hesitated for a moment.
In the past, Evelyn used to share with him everything-no matter how big or
small. He figured she probably just hadn't gotten around to it yet.
...
Evelyn returned to the hospital bed and reached for her phone.
Sebastian also came back and handed her a bottle of warm water. "Here, have this. I'll take you home after the IV drip."
Evelyn didn't want to stay in the hospital any longer. Who knew how often she'd end up here in the future? She disliked that thought.
"Okay. Thanks, Sebastian."
Sebastian glanced at her and chuckled. "I'm more reliable than your husband, aren't I?"
He continued, "Back then, my father was so desperate to set us up. He would've been more than happy to marry me into your family as a live-in son-in-law. Too bad you have good taste in everything except men. You turned down a prime catch like me."
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh.
Graham Hill had always valued her. His favorite saying was, "That brat, Sebastian, isn't good enough for you. He may not be very capable, but at least he's responsible. He won't let you down."
Even a top talent like Sebastian had been deemed worthless by his own father.
It showed just how much Graham Hill valued her.
But she and Sebastian were simply not meant to be. The two of them had once pulled countless all-nighters together, writing papers, running tests, and debating about various issues.
When they were younger, they admired each other but were also constantly competing with each other.
They had a great bond, but it wasn't love.
As they walked downstairs, Evelyn saw a Cullinan drive out of the parking lot.
It sped away without any hesitation.
Lucas' car.
A moment later, Evelyn received a WhatsApp message from Lucas' work account. "Want me to stay with you?"
She glanced at the car that had already sped away and sighed softly.
He had never intended to stay. That text was just out of courtesy.
But looking at the sender, she realized something.
She had blocked his personal account last time but had forgotten that he often
used his work account.
Without hesitation, she blocked this number too.
