Chapter 1488
For safety's sake, they decided to first destroy the painting.
As a result of the accident, everyone was not in the mood to have fun. They didn't stay for long, so Wyatt left with Waverly.
In the car, Wyatt's eyes couldn't help darkening once his gaze fell on the laptop in her arms. "Well, you're indeed powerful..."
He had never expected her to manage such a skill!
He had thought that she carried a laptop around to put on an act or for convenience. If he hadn't witnessed it with his own eyes that day, he wouldn't have imagined her to be capable of operating the computer so perfectly and could almost be compared to his company's technical experts. Perhaps not, she might be more skilled!
Facing such a dangerous situation, she could make a prompt decision. It wasn't that simple! It seemed as though she could deal with it in a flash!
All of a sudden, he was reminded of their previous conflict. The call couldn't get through, and he would always be required to leave a message in the voice mailbox. As a result, he sought consultation from the customer service of the service provider to resolve his doubts. "It must have nothing to do with the phone system," he thought. "There must be tricks manipulated with my phone!"
Else, how could he be directly referred to the voice mailbox every time he dialed her number?
"Hmph!"
Waverly didn't bother to respond to his statement after giving him a look. She was kind enough not to take it to heart, else with his evil deeds, she would play some little tricks and cause him to be in a mess for quite a period of time!
She was quite confident about her own specialty!
What Waverly didn't tell him was that she had self- learned it all because she had always been cheated while playing mobile games. Not only had she been cheated and lost a lot of money, but they would also ridicule her for being silly. In a fit of anger, she self-learned to master computer skills. Perhaps her family was well off, she had come into contact with all kinds of electronic products since young, not to mention how she was naturally sensitive to numbers. In short, she understood everything at a glance and mastered it all in no time. When she entered college, she wanted to pursue her major in the field, but her father and brother objected to the idea with the excuse that it was a tiring job. Back then, she focused on the future insights of her career, and to have closer contact with Franklin, she chose to pursue a degree in finance which was required in all industries. Since she had thought of mastering financial management skills, it just happened to be in line with her family's will for her to get an office job!
At the sight of her proud gaze like that of a kid, Wyatt dotingly ruffled her hair and couldn't help laughing out loud.
"Ha-ha."
"I'm not a puppy. Don't touch my hair! It's all messed up!" Waverly slapped his palm off and smoothed her hair, glaring at him.
What was wrong with men?
Her brother used to have the same habit. It was not easy for her to change his habit after she had grown up. At the very least, he wouldn't put so much strength into ruffling her hair.
It was no wonder that women would always bring a comb with them whenever they left the house! Was it possible for them not to do so? If not, their hair would be all gentle and smooth when they left the house but turn messy and disheveled with they returned home!
Gripping her little hand, Wyatt took her into his arms and asked, "How about working in my company? It's such a waste of talent for you to stay in such a small company..."
Giving him a hard push, Waverly rolled her eyes at him without showing any mercy. "Dream on! I want to keep my hair..."
If she were to work at his company, wouldn't she be taken advantage of?noveldrama
"Haha..."
He was instantly amused by her words, smiling as he drew closer to her. "I'll give you ten times the salary. Nope. You name a figure. You can get as much as you want!"
In response, she rolled her eyes in disdain!
"Waverly..."
"You can never trust a puppy's words. I have yet completed my work!" The implication was that he was a liar!
As a thought flitted through his mind, he shook his head helplessly. Wyatt could only start the car, but the incident gave him a new level of understanding of Waverly. The shock in his heart was beyond words.
In the evening, several men gathered at East Bannpool without any women tagging along.
After receiving a brief recap of the entire incident, Frederick was silent for a long while before he spoke up, "They're trying to scheme against us, aren't they? Have the few of us been on high profile these years?"
How had they stumbled upon bad luck? Who gave the police the courage to search the Clements Family's club thrice?
It was fine if it were to be the latter, but if others were trying to force them to a corner, things were getting dangerous.
Shaking his head, Willy took the lead to say.
"I don't think so. All of us carry out legitimate businesses. To put it bluntly, we
contribute to the main development of Casterwich City! If they try to get rid of all of
us, isn't the other party trying to leave himself with no escape route?"
Carson agreed and added.
"I've got a rough idea of it. Although there was a change of blood in the upper management team, they have the same goal as before! What's more, the reorganization is to ensure more effective development, not to mention how they value the economy a lot more. It's not easy for usto get to this point, so they can't offend us as they please! Besides, they received a hefty sum of our money, and we've never caused them trouble either!"
Setting the glass on the table, Nicholas chimed in.
"As for this incident, I think it's most probably because they received solid evidence and were forced into doing so so as not to be ridiculed! When orders are issued, there are times when the members carrying out the task decide to disobey the instructions given. If it turns out to be like what you said, that they're trying to get rid of us, they won't give us the chance to respond!"
That was to say, the other party would either not make a move or would make
sure his attacks were earth-shattering!
"That's right!"
Nodding, Frederick went along with him by saying.
"In the future, we have to keep a low
profile. Whenever we talk or do anything, we must be careful not to violate the bottom line of our
principles. Never engage in head-on conflicts with the superiors. No
matter how strong we are, we're human beings. Do you all
understand?"
No matter what, they would never go against the country! As long as they didn't cross the bottom line of the country, the people would pounce at the chance to curry favor with them and would never offend them easily, given their influence
and connections!
"Yes!"
After the crowd nodded and expressed their stance one after another, Frederick continued.
"That said, we're not pushovers. We must make sure they understand what they should do! This year, except for the usual payment of taxes, we will cancel all forms of contributions to the country. Let's first test their background!"
He longed to see how the higher-ups would explain to their superiors the decline in the development of the city without their support! Without the expectations met, how long could they last in their positions?
"What about the drug incident? I have no idea who I've offended. I can't seem to free myself from incidents related to drugs!"
Trevor felt that since he had picked up the formula, he turned unlucky as if he had stepped on dog poop!
Everyone present burst out laughing upon hearing his complaint. "Haha..."
In an instant, the tense atmosphere warmed.
What do you think?
