Not Your Doormat Anymore

Chapter 47

After Nora finished speaking, the room fell silent.

"Could it be a system error? Maybe the nurses didn't receive it..."

"I sent it over before my shift ended. Dr. Ranford had me record a video for him, and our chat log can be used as evidence as well."

Nora held up her phone. Though the footage was a bit shaky and unclear, you could clearly hear her stating that the previous prescription was incorrect and that the new one should be followed. The nurses had also acknowledged it.

Yet the patient in Room 505 still had an incident, and this morning, the incorrect prescription somehow circulated, drawing the entire hospital's ire toward me. There was more to this situation than it seemed.

"Who dispensed the medication?"

Dr. Grey scanned the room sternly, but no one seemed to know.

"Dr. Huxley, you were the one who handled the emergency in Room 505 last night, right? You explain."

Samuel's face had gone pale. "I was just called over by the night shift nurse. I don't really know..."

"So, can my name be cleared now?"

I tapped the table when the room remained quiet.

Dr. Grey shot me a glare. "Even if you claim that you didn't issue that prescription, isn't it a problem that your office is so easily accessed by others? Dr. Ranford, maybe it's time you take better control of your private life and stop letting people just drop by."

I smiled faintly. "What if I said that person wasn't here to see me? While I was out saving a patient, someone snuck into my office and tampered with my computer. They didn't get in under my name."

I had already told security that I had nothing to do with Casey anymore and that she was not to be let in even if she claimed that she came for me. But she still managed to get upstairs yesterday, so when I left, I reminded the security team again.

The guard had been embarrassed when I told him about it. "That lady was personally escorted in by Dr. Huxley. He said she was his friend, so I couldn't stop her."

I had sensed something was off back then, which was why I asked Nora to record the video and keep it as evidence.

I didn't expect them to make their move so soon, starting trouble first thing in the morning. If I hadn't been prepared, I would probably already be suspended and kicked out of the hospital. No matter how I defended myself, it wouldn't have made a difference.

"If it wasn't you, then who was it? Alright, since this was just a misunderstanding, let's move on. The patient's safety is what matters most. Just remember to lock your office from now on."

Dr. Grey clearly wanted to sweep everything under the rug, but I wasn't about to let that happen.

"Hold on."noveldrama

I looked at the doctors and Dr. Grey. "Did you all forget what you promised just now? I said if it turned out to be a misunderstanding, each of you would owe me an apology. Let's start with you." I pointed at Samuel.

His expression turned sour, and I added casually, "Who do you think let that person in?"

That shut Samuel down, and he immediately lowered his head. "Sorry for misunderstanding you, Dr. Ranford."

He practically squeezed the words through gritted teeth. He was clearly unwilling.

I already knew that he wouldn't give in so easily. I nodded. "Next."

The other doctors, not wanting to escalate things further, apologized one after another. Finally, it was Dr. Grey's turn.

He didn't look pleased, however. "I'm the department head!"

"I took a risk and could've been suspended just to fight for this chance," I said, meeting his eyes without flinching. "Even if it were the hospital director, he'd still owe me an apology."

Dr. Grey clenched his jaw, his expression dark.

"I apologize on behalf of Dr. Grey. There. Is that good enough for you?"
