Chapter 209 Calling the Police
Eric looked at me with concern, draping his suit jacket over my shoulders. He gently patted my back and said, "I'm here now."
His voice carried a soothing calmness that helped relax the tension in my body. "Wait for me a moment."
Eric softly spoke into my ear, then stood up from the bed. He towered over Jeremiah, who was still sprawled on the floor from where Eric had thrown him earlier.
Jeremiah didn't seem to expect Eric to arrive so quickly. He looked at Eric in shock, staring at him for a while before stammering out an explanation. "M-Mr. Flint, she's the one who seduced me. I was testing her for you, and it turns out she's not even worth marrying."
Eric gave a cold snort, clearly uninterested in his words. Eric raised his arm. His hand was balled into a fist as he delivered a powerful blow.
Soon, the only sound in the room was Jeremiah's agonized cries.
Once Jeremiah's voice started to fade, I quickly stood up and grabbed Eric's arm. "Stop it," I urged.
Eric turned to look at me and said nothing, but there was a hint of confusion in his eyes.
Realizing he might have misunderstood, I quickly added with a smile, "It's not that I care about him. If you really hurt him badly, it's not going to end well."
After all, both of us had some standing in the business world. Even though Jeremiah was reckless, he was still the only heir to the Cornell family. Even if he was at fault, if Eric hurt him badly, public opinion would be sharply divided.
"Let's call the police," I said, glancing at the unconscious Jeremiah on the floor.
Eric hesitated.
I knew he was worried that if the police were involved, the public would find out about what Jeremiah had tried to do to me.
Even though I was innocent, there would always be people who would maliciously judge me. He didn't want me to be hurt by any of that.
I shook my head with a soft smile and held his hand. "It's fine. I've gotten used to public opinion a long time ago."noveldrama
I dialed the emergency number myself.
After completing the report, I took Eric to meet with the hotel manager and acquired the surveillance footage from tonight.
It was only then that Eric seemed to finally understand what I was doing. "You're using this opportunity to completely push the Cornell family into the public eye, aren't you?"
I nodded. "Bingo!"
Since Jeremiah dared to do such a thing, he had to face the consequences.
I knew that just sending him to the police station wouldn't fix his rotten behavior. Only by taking down the entire Cornell family could I ensure he would never dare to treat me like this again.
When we got home, I opened my social media account.
Sure enough, the story about Jeremiah attempting to assault me had already made it to the top of the trending list.
The posts were filled with clips taken by bystanders, and no one knew the full story. Everyone was just analyzing it on their own.
"What's the big deal about this? Isn't it just a little post-divorce fun between a couple?"
"I bet this was a mutual thing. I can't believe this is trending."
"I heard the heir of the Cornell family was sent to the police station. I don't think this is as simple as it seems."
I scrolled through the comments for a while before finally finding a few sensible ones.
To live up to Eric's expectations, I
quickly uploaded the footage of Jeremiah trying to force me into a compromising situation to my main account.
I waited for an hour for it to make waves on the internet.
When I opened my social media again, the trending topic "Jeremiah, the Shameful Man" was at the top of the trending list.
