The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 251

Just like the bodyguards said.

Once Rosa had them tie up Dahlia, they left. Then it was just Dahlia tied up and Rosa, free as a bird, in the room. Less than two minutes passed before the bodyguards broke through the door. Rosa was on the floor, her face pale as a ghost. They'd seen way too many cases like this. One look was all it took to know Rosa was gone by then. But what exactly went down in those two minutes? Only the late Rosa and Dahlia could tell.

Dahlia's recent statement seemed like a confession, but anyone could catch the drift—she was suggesting that Rosa's own emotional rollercoaster led to her sudden demise. It had nothing to do with her. Whether that was the truth or not didn't matter. With no testimony from the dead, Dahlia was off the hook.

Evelyn bit down hard on her lip. She knew how this game was played. But still... Dahlia had taken Charlie and Rosa away! Evelyn clenched her fists, her eyes locked on Dahlia. Charles didn't make a move. He just waited for the cops to step forward and untie Dahlia. They checked the knots and confirmed they were professionally done. Even if Dahlia got free, there was no way she could tie herself back up.noveldrama

Rosa's death couldn't be turned into a case. The lead officer gave Charles a nod and left.

Dahlia threw herself into Charles' arms, still apologizing. "Charles, I'm sorry. When I saw Grandma collapse right there, I wanted to rush over and help, but I was tied up and couldn't move."

"In just a few seconds, she closed her eyes. I panicked and screamed for the bodyguards... but it was too late. I couldn't save her..." Her tears soaked through Charles' hospital gown. Charles patted her back gently, trying to comfort her. "It wasn't your fault."

That single line, "It wasn't your fault," had Dahlia hiding a smug grin

against his chest. Rosa brought it on herself! She had regained her consciousness, right? Wouldn't amnesia have been just fine? Live and let live. Rosa wasn't messing with her and Charles anymore. Though Dahlia still despised her, she hadn't planned on killing her.

Dahlia blamed Rosa for wanting to remember the past and for siding with Evelyn against her, leaving her no choice. If Rosa hadn't meddled, she might've lived a bit longer. But no, she picked her path-straight into trouble. Rosa had no one to blame but herself.

Dahlia remembered when Rosa brought her here and shut the door. Rosa, pumped full of meds, couldn't handle even a little provocation. Dahlia had casually mentioned how she tormented Charlie and Evelyn, the wretch. Rosa couldn't take it, clutched her chest, and hit the ground. She really did care about Evelyn and her daughter.

In that moment, Dahlia just sat there, watching coldly as Rosa writhed on the floor. She watched her struggle for breath and suffer before she died. Only when she was sure Rosa was gone did she call for help, tears streaming down her face.

Rosa was to blame for having too many principles. Dahlia knew if Rosa wanted to deal with her, she wouldn't let the bodyguards get involved. She'd handle it herself. Talk about biting off more than you can chew.

Thinking of this, Dahlia's eyes

sparkled with triumph. Yet, she kept up the tears. Even after the cops left, she looked up from Charles' embrace, giving Evelyn a taunting glance. That look said it all. She was the one who took down Rosa, and all

Evelyn could do was rage helplessly.
