The Day Our Promise Breaks

Chapter 279

How could there possibly be any real affection? Charles' current guilt over the little brat was just a fleeting sentiment, a weak bond of blood that couldn't stand the test of time or the arrival of a new child. Once she had kids with him, Charles would be all about them, leaving little Charlie completely forgotten.

"Evelyn, do you totally despise me deep down?"

"Of course you do, how could you not? After all, it was me who deliberately snatched that kidney away from the little brat, causing her to die on the operating table."

"For you, as her mom, the toughest thing must be the 'what if,' right?"noveldrama

"If I hadn't taken that kidney, your little brat could've pulled through the surgery."

"Such a shame, huh? That little brat died because of me! And you, her mom, claim to love her but are completely powerless against me, her killer!"

Dahlia taunted with a nasty grin, her words dripping with arrogance.

"Dahlia, what goes around comes around. You'll face your reckoning one day!" Evelyn bit her lip hard, blood trickling down, yet she felt no pain. She fought to keep her emotions in check, battling her illness, determined not to let Dahlia's words break her.

She hadn't avenged Charlie yet; she couldn't afford to crumble. Brooks always said, "Justice has a long reach." As long as she was alive, there was still a chance to nail Dahlia for her wickedness. One day, Dahlia would pay for her sins. She'd meet a terrible end. Evelyn was sure of it.

"Hahaha, reckoning? What reckoning could possibly come my way?" Dahlia laughed, her expression even more smug. She looked at Evelyn, who was teetering on the edge, her provocations getting harsher.

"Evelyn, are you a kid? Still believing in karma?"

"Don't you know that in this world, with money and power, you can do whatever you want?"

"Speaking of which, do you know how I managed to swipe the little brat's kidney?" Evelyn's head snapped up, her eyes wide with shock.

"You guessed it, it was Charles."

"The kidney you worked so hard to get for the little brat? With just a word from Charles, it became Sandy's."

"If it weren't for Charles' help, how could I have taken the little brat's kidney? How would she have died on the operating table?"

"Do you even know what Charles was doing while you were calling him from outside the operating room? He was right there in the hospital with Sandy, who was perfectly fine!"

"He didn't ignore your calls; he saw them but chose not to answer. Not a single one! If he had picked up even once, maybe your little brat could've been saved!"

"Do you get it now? The one responsible for the little brat's death wasn't just me; it was Charles, too."

"And what can you do with that knowledge? With Charles' statusin the city, even with Brooks' help you can't touch Charles, let alone me, protected by Charles."

"Evelyn, face reality! In this lifetime, you'll never be able to avenge your little brat. Never!"

The word "never" hit Evelyn like a ton of bricks. Despite her efforts to fight off her despair, she was

overwhelmed. Her legs gave out et

"Watching your daughter's killer live happily every day, doesn't it eat you up
