Stepping out, Frank called Jouri to have her go over to the homestay cottage to get the hag's phone while he escorted Aisling Walls' parents there.

Aisling burst into tears the instant she saw her parents and was at once hugging them while bawling.

The chief ranger walked up to Frank, saying, "She's quite something. Fearless against injustice, a sobbing child with her parents."

Frank nodded. "Both qualities that are inextricably connected, I suppose."

After sending Aisling and her parents away, Jouri soon arrived and promptly sat down beside Frank. "I heard that Horace Gagne's mansion burned down, and the man himself died in the fire. Not only was no one else harmed, but all the evidence against him is exposed too. People are saying that he got his just deserts-that the mountain god was blessing them."

Frank was not sure how he should react to that. "It's fine if they believed the paranormal, but why are you joining them?"

Jouri chuckled. "Oh, I wouldn't have believed it either. But as it turns out, the mountain god is kind, powerful, and handsome. My life would have no regrets if I could have a taste."

"Are you sure you should say that?" Frank laughed in amusement.

"I can say whatever I want, as long as it pleases me."

Frank then whipped out the hag's phone and put it on the table. "Let's get back to business. Look into these people and wipe them out."

Jouri tapped on the phone and looked through it. "That's the easy part. But how are you going to thank me after I handled such a huge mess for you?"

Noticing Jouri's added meaning, he played along. "Then I'll do you a favor in return."

Jouri smiled. "That's exactly what I wanted to hear! If you have nothing on your plate, come along with me-it's not that far, it's right in Cronde."

She was not going to do anything of harm to Frank anyway. Even if she was, Frank could deal with it anyway.

And since he did not have anything on his plate, he followed Jouri to a mansion in Cronde.

In the drawing room, he found it filled with glowing LED lights, as if the entire room was a massive piece of equipment.

Curious, Frank asked, "Are you using me as a lab rat?"

Jouri smiled, shaking her head. "The technology has matured, but it only works on you. If you trust me, stand on top of that!"

Seeing that Jouri was pointing at a wooden stool, Frank chuckled. "Why do I suddenly feel doubtful? Most of all, I'm curious-what can that thing do to you?

"With your help in recent days, we've been obtaining things we never expected to find."

Jouri explained, "It's our luck that we

fused them and engineered

equipment around it that enhances

your DNA... Well, we call it

enhancement, but we're basically altering its structure so that your body would go through unexpected changes.

"It also requires you to abandon your previous body. For most people, that means death-perhaps only you can emerge from it unscathed."

Frank nodded. "In that case, let's do it!"

With those words, Frank stood on top of the wooden stool.

"Long time no see!" Frank greeted it calmly like an old friend.
